Advice for a new shooter

I just started trap shooting late last year and want to get
"as good as I can be".

I really like shooting trap and now have the time now that I'm retired.

I want to ask experienced trap shooters on this forum their opinions to help me realize my goal(consistantly break 4 out of 5 birds)
I have taken some positive steps on my own:

1)Joined a good local trap shooting club:Delaware County Sportsmen's Association
2)bought a good used trap gun(BT99)
3)Corrected a cataract issue with my shooting eye 2 weeks ago

I've hunted ducks and geese for 30 years so have familiarity with shotgunning.
And I willing to practice 2-3 times a week.

Thanks
Tom

Go to the club. Lock the trap machine on straight aways fom station 3. Shoot a box of shells and adjust your gun so your hits are centered. If you do not know how to do this, get someone to help you.

When this task is complete, report back to TS.Com for further instructions. HMB

Tom: Great! You have retired and now have the time to devote to whatever you want to do. Your input is a little vague though. To be "better" of course we need 2 very important "pieces of the puzzle". You need a gun that truly fits you, (and that may or may not be that BT99). Once you have that gun, then comes proper technique in breaking acceptable scores. If you can find a good shooter at your club that is experienced in helpng new shooters, (ask around at your club and you should get some recommendations); then you have a great start. This individual, (or individuals) can also help you in understanding if that BT99 is the gun for you. Anyway, get some "good solid" input from a person that you trust. Then you can start to enjoy this great sport. Good Luck. Ed
