Do any of you use SIA Gun Insurance?

Hello all,

Do any of you use Sportsman's Insurance Agency Gun Insurance? I have been thinking of getting this. I was hoping that it would cover loss or damage (stolen from locked truck, damage done by airplane personal, etc.). If you have used this, please give me a review.

Matt,
Yes I just starting about 3 months ago has been saving me money with shipping the gun alot and I like the idea of the wood replacement if broken. Was alot cheaper than my existing State Farm policy and they wanted anything over $5,000 in value to be appraised .

I've had it for the last couple of years. Their rates were less than anyone else but they do require you to insure the gun for the full MSRP, not what you think its worth. Their coverage includes just about any type of loss except for having a gun stolen out of an unlocked car. They even said they would cover the loss if the gun was shipped and lost by the shipper. My homeowners insurer couldn't come close to the coverage or the cost. Great peace of mind for that special gun or guns you always worry about.

thanks for all your replies. Yes, I did know that you had to value gun @ MSRP. That is not a problem. What got me interested in this was....I asked my vehicle insurer how much was covered if gun was stolen from locked car. It wasn't enough to get me a new gun.

Good luck with the NRA. I can`t get them to return my calls. Butt I do get 1 or 2 solicitations for donnations every week.
Hollis will take cafe of you. We had a couple at my old gun club had their guns blow over in a gun rack about week after having new stocks built. Paid for repairs without any questions.

Got a google alert on this thread about insurance. We have our guns insured with Collectibles Insurance. I also work for them. Guns are insured for replacement value and only need to list those worth $5,000 or more. Not sure how rates compare to SIA but definitely cheaper than NRA program. Annemarie

I signed up with SIAI about a year ago after checking out several others including my own State Farm HO policy. Hollis is somewhat less expensive but what got my interest is that they know what you're talking about when you describe your firearms, especially with after-market work. With currently available guns your premium is based upon full replacement value, plus the extras you want to insure. This is true with guns you bought used. Older guns are valued based upon condition, extras, etc. I've had no claims and hope I don't, but I've been told by others they've been treated right. Sometime you should try to explain a double-release trigger and a soft-touch stock (etc.) to your regular HO agent. That will make you seek out someone like Hollis.

Cheers

I thought about it. Got to the part about insuring for full MSRP (as they determine it, not you) and tossed it. I have a circa '83 K-80 combo. Not real fond of having to insure it for what --- $16,000?!? That's absurd. Should be able to insure for whatever limit you want to insure it for. Take out a $5K policy, you get paid $5K in the event of a loss. The LIMIT should be MSRP. That is, you can't insure your Ruger P-89 for $100K and expect to get paid.
