I'm in big orange country, East Tenn just outside of Johnson City and she had two more birds today, but was in to thick of cover that I could not get to her or the birds. I will post pic of the structure that I hunt, It's not easy.lol
Queen is looking for another hunting buddy to hunt with her master.lol He would like to have at least one other person to help chase rockets out to get a shot at them.lol My zip is 37692 Unicoi, Tenn
That's certainly good grouse country where you live!! If I lived closer and still had my mountain goat climbing gears, Gidget and I would join in the rocket chase!! I saw a lot of ruffed grouse driving my MH across the Blue Ridge Parkway a few years back! Good luck guy!! Hap
With me being disabled I do most of my hunting on fairly level logging roads that I can drive up to or use my 4wheeler to get to, or walk up old creek beds!
#8s work best you can cover the whole porch that way. I had a pointer yrs ago that would hunt around the farm and bring a quail and leave it at the back door for me, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.lol
Lee, any wild grapes in your coverts? After wild grapes get ripe, it's fairly easy to ambush the drunken grouse! My mom and I was gathering wild grapes for jelly years ago and a grouse flew into a limb and broke his neck. I'd loved to have a video of drunken grouse, some can hardly walk let alone fly. It's a crack-up to watch their antics when the grapes ferment in their craw! Hap
That's one thing I look for when I'm out deer, bear or trout fishing is structure that will hold the birds, grapes, shoemate trees I think it's called, it has red like pine cone type seed pod and the really like them. Later on in the year they will go to the laurel buds. I think this is going to be a good year, just this week had 5 birds and that's good for here.
thanks
