It is official!!!! The Omaha Parks & Rec. has recommended that the new lease be awarded to Steve Nuss, currently residing in Virginia, formerly of Grand Island NE where he was instrumental in the establishment of the Grand Island Skeet and Sporting Clays Range.

Mr Nuss has a long history of being involved with gun clubs including management and event promotion. He is expected to be approved by the
City Council and operating the Facility before the end of June.

I was there last night. John does a terrific job. Anyone have Steve Nuss' phone number?

Gil didn't do such a bad job...even though he hated people.

He did give the kids $2.50 a round practice for 3 years. Like anything, if you're in a business long enough, you begin to take things for granted. Maybe the Omaha Skeet Club will actually shoot in Omaha now.

It will be good to see some events back at Koch again. I like being able to shoot both trap and skeet(even though I'm not good at it). And in Omaha, you need to be friends with both sides.

Chauncy, Wednesday night, International Clays 1325 FPS with 7/8 Downrange wad. What a dufus I am. It was breaking them from the handicap yardage with ease. It changed the POI by 2-3" and cost me a number of birds until I could find where they were shooting. Broke the 2ND shot in doubles, no problem. You mileage may vary.

Hmmm...they're about 600 feet tall with about 42 80,000 volt lines on them, right in front of the trap line about 75 yards out. If it's quiet you can hear them buzz. Add a few B-52s from Offutt AFB coming overhead, along with the fact the range is the only one in the world that faces East, and we are very lucky to have such a range in Omaha!

I shot at Offutt Rod and Gun the other night...... you want to talk about some distractions? Planes were doing touch and goes on a regular basis and small planes were buzzing overhead. Now the after burner flame on a fighter dialing her up for take off when you are on position one...... it has a longer flame than Longshot at a PONDO! ROFL

Mike, I brought up the range on google earth to look and see if towers really exist and Wow it is big, but I think it's more than 75 yards out. The target only goes 50 yards and these things are in the far distance. I measured it on google earth and it's really more than a tenth of a mile and only one of them. I really think the skeetie thingies are more of a distraction and should be removed ASAP so we could shoot on the west end and a tower wouldn't even be seen. I don't think the range faces east either, more north north east. Google Earth is a wonderful thing but it's to bad it's not in real time. I'll bet the number of Nebraskan's who claim they shot a pheasant at 100 yards or a deer at 300 yards would be a lot fewer.

OK, I was at Koch Sunday afternoon for 3-4 hours shooting, talking with shooters, and picking on John B. Now there were 3 cars on the trap side and 25 cars on the skeet side. I shot trap on house 8 and there were not many trappers shooting or sitting in the clubhouse. Skeeters were paying the bills at Koch today. We all know that Gil didn't like Skeeters but when you look at the league sheets, they have a lot of shooters also. So if the trappers want to talk, support can be measured in pictures of green dead presidents. Many of our top high school trappers, shoot trap practice, then walk down to the skeet side for a round of fun. What is wrong with that? Many anti guns would like to see that range shut down. Why not support the trap side instead of picking on the people that are paying the bills right now. Don't believe me... ask John for the ratio since he work the register today. Don't worry, I was weird before I stated shooting skeet and sporting clays. Had a visitor from Wisconsin who stopped by Offutt to visit his son. He was a 27 yard shooter and a lot of fun to be on squad with. Come out and have some fun. IMHO

You were in diapers when Gil started running the place. You have better stick to getting out of high school rather than trying to run the political affairs of Omaha Ne. City government. While you are entitled to your opinion, you need to be able to back up your statements with facts. While I have no dog in this fight, the pending investigation may just make you eat your words. If you don't know why, you may want to withhold your comments until you see what the investigations shows. JD, research first, talk second.

Jim and Doug
Why do you hate the skeeters so? I know Gil didn't like skeeters and they testified against him. Did they do something to you personally or are you just mad over the change of management? I personally think this animosity between the shooting disciplines is more dangerous than the Bradys. Have they prevented you from shooting trap? Are they just different than you? I don't understand what they did to you. Brown's , shoot well.

Some comments:

C1 says "Doug: Are you refering to the "skeetie" things?? I think they will fall down with a slight push"

The skeet towers were replaced by concrete block structures last year. They are no longer the rickety wood structures you remember.

JD asks: "PS. How the hell do u know me"

Heck JD everyone knows who you are. Here in Doniphan Junior High girls have your picture on their lockers. Omaha is just saying that there is more to the Gil story than has been published (yet). Your experience was good, others not so good.

doug: What are your issues? Why do you denigrate skeet shooters? IMHO all shooting sports enthusiasts need to support each other. If we do not stand together we will fail and my children and your children will not be able to shoot period.

Omaha: Say hi to Marty for me....... (lol)

J.D. You just finished the 9th grade which makes
you about 15 years old? If you do the math you will find that Gil managed
Harry A. Koch for a lot of years and since you were in diapers the first few
year of your life, the math works out. You have made some typical
wrong assumptions which I will point out to you. Please don't embarrass the
Nebraska trapshooters by telling the whole national trapshooting forum something if you
don't know it is factual. Example: Gil treated me fine. J.D.
This is a factual statement. It may or may not be the opinion of all
shooters in Nebraska. You go to a fine school, so I am
disappointed by your spelling and grammar, but I realize it is summer.
Some of your postings have been a little questionable and I wonder if your coach
knows what you are posting. I reread your average and you had a good year.
Shoot well this summer and have a great 10th grade year. Just don't show
your thread to your English teacher at C. P. . You are welcome to stop by
my vendor spot but bring your coach, as I would like to talk with him about your
postings. Manners are required at Doniphan. See you there.

Att.OmahaSportingSupply Your right i was in diapers when Gil started running
the place, Good, my math is correct aboveand i
understand he was kind of a jerk
Most people just called him Grumpy - but he was
more off a jerk to u Wrong here J.D. , Gil always treated
me good. understand cause well u shoot skeetWrong,
again here J.D. unless you count shooting Skeet once every 2 months a true
skeeter. Since I shoot mostly trap and rarely visit that side of the
range, I don't feel it doesn't give me Skeeter qualifications. . But ever
since i have been shooting there hes always offered me advice and helped me w/
my shootingThat is what was good about Gil. He was
known to get along with the trap shooters, but didn't always get along with the
skeet shooters.. But don't ever talk to me like that again - ok!
J.D. If you don't follow the rules at an ECTC shoot, I
will do my best to have you removed from any range. Follow the rules and
we have no problem. I look forward to meeting you at state
Stop by.- u say your goin to have a booth
Please use you manners at my booth. In fact, I would love
to talk with you and your coach. Does your athletic director at your
school know about your comments? With your schools fine reputation, I
don't think they would want it tarnished. I believe that name of your school is
printed on your shooting vest, last time I looked.. And thats right u
don't have a dog in this fight! I do now. So
far my comments have been kept to observations, which yours haven't, based on
your incorrect assumptions above.

JD

PS. How the hell do u know me Your are published my
man. Congratulations. J. D. Think before you post.
Continue to shoot well. Hope to see you for the next three years.
IMHO

OmahaShootingSupply, Who are you ? I shot about 20,000
registered skeet targets in Nebraska, from 1990-2000 & I have some
issues.

Reply to the Forum Thread

Doug, then why are you bad mouthing the Skeet people? They pay their
bills just like you and I do, don't they? If you have issues with Skeet
shooters, did they all do something to you or just some of them? Are you
coming to Bellevue Rod and Gun on Sunday? I am not an expert nor do I
proclaim to be. I just feel that the three disciplines need to unite
against the anti gun, not bash each other. Your opinion probably is
different. Maybe in your 20,000 targets, things were different than I saw.
I will be at Bellevue Wednesday, Koch Thursday, and Offutt on Friday night.

O.S.S.

You are on track as far as Gil. He was very good to most of the kids that shot there. And sided more with trap shooters then skeet shooters.

But when it comes to J.D.'s manners you do not know this young man. I shoot with this young man and have known him and his family for several years. I help coach the Marian team and we shoot with C.P. twice a week. His manners are truly in place. As far as his typing skills that is the way kids text. I will be at state and hope to see you there.

All I can tell you boy's, if Gil is gone, maybe the Western Iowa trapshooters will come back to the Kock range again. It is all about management and putting together good programs for the shooters. Also trusting said management to send a shoot report with the check and for that information to be accurate. Even unfound rumors can kill a club, but found, your dead sooner.

Y'alls can debate the merits of skeet or trap participation. But, there is a reason why KCTA gets 30 to 40 squads of trap shooters twice a month and Omaha is lucky to draw a few locals. The new management may benefit by knowing the difference.
