I have a TC Black Diamond 45 SuperMag...I use 140 gr of 777 under a MMP sabot loaded with a 200gr FTX Hornady..its just like wacking stuff with a hot 35Remington
50 caliber,Round, dead soft lead. Wrapped in a greased patch, loaded over 90 gns.3f or 2f Goex blackpowder. Killed Southern Whitetail from 25 out to 100yds. No lost critters, no need to track blood trails...just shoot'em, then go pick'em up.
Your experience may differ...this is mine.
I use my Encore for elk. I find the 300 gr. T/C Shock Wave (I am led to beleive the are made by Hornady) with the Harvester Crush Rib sabot to be the most accurate, easiest to load and deadly on elk. May be a bit over kill for deer but they make a 250 gr. that should be ideal for the smaller animal. I use 130 gr. of loose T-7 with a Rem 209 ML primer.
This load shoots better than I can and rivals my center fire rifles to 250 yards.
I've only owned my 50-cal T/C Omega for one hunting season and haven't taken any game with it but did try a few different loads in it. The 250-grain Hornady SST/ML bullet was more accurate than the T/C Shockwave and Triple-7 powder gave better groups than Pyrodex. I use the Hornady bullet and sabot over three Triple-7 pellets sparked by a Federal 209A primer and get 1.5" three-shot 100-yard groups at just over 2,200 fps.
I have cut up two deer shot with Power Belts. In both cases there were dozens of bullet fragments, the bullet did not hold together. Both had poor shot placement but that does happen. I have used the .44 cal 240g Hornady XTP with a sabot sleeve in a .50 cal. rifler. I had two one shot kills at 100 yds, both times the bullet passed through.
Hornady Great Plains Bullets in my .54 cal flintlock (425 gr.) with excellent results. Had good results with round ball and patch also. And Powerbelts in my .50 Encore, had trouble grouping with the Thompson saboted bullets.
