Anyone aware of "proof mark knowers"?
I found a cape gun and would like to get it but can't figure of if it is nitro or black..It is probably Austrian or German...There are some crowns on the water table which makes me think it is nitro, but it doesn't say nitro.
I'm usually somewhat above-below-average on marks.
De-oil the barrel-flats, water-table and 3" or so onto the barrels and dust the marks with baby-powder or talc and take some good, close pics w/o flash and mail them to me.
" Would it have fluid steel barrels and still be BP ?
"They are not damascus, but I know there were lots of gunmakers back then with different styles. "
Of course.
Get some pics and solving your 'mystery' is pretty simple, actually.
Guns in a distance away which has made it hard to get pics of the marks
