I am throwing down the gauntlet and challenging all you mainland shooter's to be at the 2010 Hawaii State P.I.T.A. Shoot being held February 10 - 15, 2010 at the BIG ISLAND TRAP CLUB @ HILO.

Aloha,

President of the Big Island Trap Club @ Hilo,Garrett Zane, email zsportsg@yahoo.com,has given me the OK to push this shoot to the max so that we could have a full shoot of 75 shooter's so let's stop sitting on our hands and give a hand to this club through a vacation that you'll never forget.

Last year 2009, I didn't win a thing other than the best Hawaiian attire in the Aloha Handicap but a lot of trophies made their way to BC, the attendance was OK for a good shoot but it was not good enough so I'm starting early again and you will have NO EXCUSES like I heard in previous years so organize your next trip or first trip to the Big Island now and I will give you every assistance I can and if your Canadian I'll even organize your permit to import, Form6NIA that all Canadians require.

This years results are posted on http://www.shootpita.com and click on shoot results then 2009 Hawaii State Shoot, you can see that us Canadians did OK and most all 10 and their spouses will be back next year. Also I met some great friends old and new.

There were a few people that said they would be there that were NO SHOW,,,,what's with that......

Feel free to leave a yes you will attend, or comments if you have to and I will answer all emails sent to me.

OKAY, THE CHALLENGE IS IN, ARE YOU IN?????

Question from a shooter....by email,

I would love to attend, but there are several question,,,Guns: should we bring our gun, or yours,,,ammo?,,,Lodging,,,

Answer,

The Big Island Trap Club is located right behind the airport in Hilo right off Leilani St.

You have to bring your own guns and you may purchase the ammo at the club but it is not compulsary if you have other means as long as the shells conform with the P.I.T.A. rules.

The best way to look at all this is to go to http://www.shootpita.com and click on registered clubs then on Hawaii and you will see the webpage for the Big Island Trap Club @ Hilo and if you search the site by clicking on the various titles like registrations and hotels and other things from this years shoot you will find all the answers you are looking for.

As for lodging, there are a lot or rental houses located in the Hilo and Pahoa areas.
Thats the way our group goes and we have had the same house every year and enjoy it.

Hope this helps and hope to see you there in Feb. 2010.

A bit of additional info:

A total of 900 registered targets which can be cross registered with ATA. The 900 target includes the preliminary handicap event on the 11th which is not part of the HOA.

An official program will be mailed to each shooter registered for the 2010 HPITA. Shoot program will be mailed in October or November 2009.

Garrett Zane of Z Sports will again store and deliver your shotgun daily to and from the range. Contact him at, phone # is 808-935-6111 or email is zsportsg@yahoo.com.

This year’s awards banquet will be Hawaiian casual dress and held the evening of February Sunday the 14th at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel or at an outdoor pavillion somewhat the same as the pot luck. The Hilo Hawaiian has usually given us a special group rate of $90.00 plus tax per night. Be sure to mention the PITA State Shoot, when you phone or email the hotel.

We are also planning to have the very popular potluck dinner on Friday and is held at the pavillion in the King Kamehameha Park.

This is a page that I have made up to inform you of the 2010 Hawaii P.I.T.A. State shoot that will be held starting with the fun Handicap with a prise for the best Hawaiian attire February 11, and running to February 15,

BIG ISLAND TRAP CLUB
President Garrett Zane zsportsg@yahoo.com

For more info: Canada contact Reginald T. Todd Sr.
Email toddrf@shaw.ca and lets get started for the 2010 PITA Hawaii
State shoot.

REMEMBER…This is President’s day weekend in the States and car rentals and hotel reservations are a premium so book early or miss out although we had no trouble in 2009

The club holds its shooting events at the Hawaii County Trap & Skeet Range located in Hilo, Hawaii. This is a public facility under the administration of the Hawaii County Parks & Recreation Department. Normal hours of operation for the range are: Wednesdays 12-4PM, Saturdays & Sundays 9AM-4:30PM. When a gun club schedules an event at the range the County adjusts days and hours of operation to accommodate the shooting event. BITC holds registered shoots on the second Sunday of every month.

Since this is Hawaii and the temperature averages 80 degrees, shooters are accommodated with picnic benches under open air pavilions. Restrooms are available and are handicap accessible. The range is used by other gun clubs, skeet and bird hunters, and one of the four traps is configured to support skeet shooting.

Gun clubs sponsoring events take responsibility for selling ammunition to shooters who need it. Shooters can ensure their brand is available by ordering in advance or purchasing whatever is on hand at registration. Unless one of the clubs is throwing a barbecue, food is not available at the range with the exception of the Hambergers and hot dogs done by the Hilo High JROTC. However, the range is located within 10 minutes driving of several restaurants.

CLUB PRESIDENT: Garrett Zane zsportsg@yahoo.com

REMEMBER THESE DATES: 2010

Wed. Feb.10th. Practice @ 12:00 noon

Thursday Feb. 11th. Pre-lim ALOHA Handicap

Friday Feb. 12th. Kona Singles, Puna Handicap

Saturday Feb. 13th. Hilo Handicap, Kohala Doubles

Sunday Feb. 14th. Hawaii Singles 200 targets

Monday Feb. 15th. Hawaii Doubles, Hawaii Handicap

This will be my 5th time to the State Shoot and believe me when I say that everyone associated with this shoot have done a superb job right from the 1st annual shoot and the originaters to the people that now run the shoot should be very proud of their accomplishments in making every year a success.
If you go, I guarantee you won’t be disappointed as the Big Island has a lot to see and be amazed at.

ALOHA,

Here are a few questions and answered ones that I received...
Anyway, a few questions:

1. I'm not in PITA. Only ATA. Would I need to join PITA? The website said something about cross registered. How would that work for me?

2. How nice is the Hilo Hawaiian hotel? Reviews on the internet call it a little outdated, plus complaints they charge for internet. Are there other hotels?

http://www.expedia.ca/pub/agent.dll/qscr=dspv/nojs=1/htid=7436/crti=7/hotel-reviews here is a rundown of reviews for the Hilo Hawaiian.

3. Is there enough sightseeing and activities on the big island to keep us busy for a week? Beaches? I'd really probably only be able to get away for one day of shooting and still keep my marriage intact. She's not a trap shooter.

4. Enlighten me as to the procedure for getting my gun over to Hawai'i and the bit about "Z Sports will store and deliver your shotgun daily to and from the range." I assume this is some special Hawaiian law that you have to work within. Just looking for how this works.

5. I assume the rule that "...you must purchase the ammo at the club…" is also some special Hawaiian law one must work within. How does this work. Can they get any brand, or is it limited. How are the ammo prices? Is there a minimum order price?

Answer...No you don't have to buy their ammo if you have other souces as long as the shells conform with P.I.T.A. rules. BUT..buying from the club has proved to be the easiest.

6. I don't have any Hawaiian shooting shirts. Do you think they'd still let me shoot?

Question #1,
Yes you will have to join the P.I.T.A. at $10.00 (being a 1st time joiner) and if you want your targets cross registered with the ATA (not compulsory) then that costs more.

#2, the Nanaloa hotel is right beside the Hilo Hawaiian but is a little older but they have done a reno since I stayed there 4 years ago. there are a few other but realize that it is the Presidents Day weekend and hotels are at a premium.

#3, the shoot is 5 days long but with a 14 day vacation there are lots to see.

#4, & 5 are answered below.

#6, you have made the same mistake that everyone else makes when talking about Hawaiian shirts as they are tourists shirts sold by Hawaiian's...lol cause the Hawaiian's dress the same as us unless you are talking traditional in which case...how are you at wearing a dress (as we call it) Ladies Grass...Men..Lava-Lava or Lapa, which I wore this year and won best dressed Hawaiian Attire.

http://www.shootpita.com/clubs/bitc/index.htm this site has all the forms for 2009 and has yet to be updated for 2010 but will be at some later date.

http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov/cam3/ webcam at Hale Mau' Mau' in Kilauea caldera.

http://www.bigislandvacationrentals.com/ this and following title are vacation rentals....

http://www.hpvacationrentals.com/MakaiHale.html

http://www.CastleResorts.com don't know if clicking on this title will work but it's for the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel.

Here are a couple of sites to look over and as far as entertainment goes...I have been there 4 times and have yet to see it all...
Our group rents a house for the 14 days ,(this is the best way to go) and we fly into Kona and rent a car at the airport and drive to Pahoa, where the house is and then to the trap club that is 35 minutes away. This is the best way to go if you can put a group together to split the cost.

My wife doesn't shoot either but shops a lot.

It is "not" the law that Garrett Zane has to transport your guns but is offered at a cost of $25.00 so you don't have to lug them back to your lodging each day.
It is "not" the law that you must buy your ammo from the club but has been the easiest and they are available through a local supermarket called J Hara. the club has brought in Remington's, Federal, Dianna, and Winchester but has been different shells from year to year at a cost of $70.00 - $80.00 US per flat. You will require 4 flats to do the entire shoot with 100 rounds left for practice and shoot-offs.

It "is the law" to "register" your guns at the "police station" within 3 days of landing in Hawaii and this covers you if you have an accident or get pulled over and they find guns in the car.
It's always best to cover all bases.

Like I said this will be my 5th time at the State shoot and would love to see 20 more "new shooters" from the mainland and our regular 55 other shooters to make up 75 registered shooter's so pass on to all your shooting buddies.

One thing I have to add because I think I'm funny is when you walk through the Thurston Lava Tube you and your Mrs. will say...YOUR NOT IN KANSAS ANYMORE TOTO.

Hope this helps and feel free to contact me anytime.

Auctioneer,

I don't have a street # but to google earth it just type in Leilani St.,Hilo Hawaii and it will take you behind the airport to the gun club....

It's at the end of Leilani in the county recycle place....as the map on the webpage shows you.

You have to enter the dump and follow "rubbish dump rd." and then left turn into trap club.

Hope this helps...

Received My invitation program yesterday and can't wait....

Only 2 1/2 months to go and is not a lot of time to get all your paperwork together if your Canadian but all my entries and shells are paid for, except options and my car is rented and plane ticket paid for and house on the big island also paid for.....
If you are Canadian and a member of P.I.T.A. and require an invitation letter for your Form6NIA then email me and I will send you one....or if you are ATA and want to go to this shoot and join us then I will email you one also...

Hope to see a lot of old and some new friends there, I'll be the one in the authentic Hawaiian attire.....in the preliminary Handicap shoot on Thursday, Feb.11,2010.

Hey Toddy,

Good luck out there in beautiful Hilo. Have a Sumo burger for us! SUMO! I would say stay dry, but that is impossible there. Just have a fantastic time and drag some of that warmth this way when you return. Say hi to Murray, Karla, "Sparky" (Ray) and Darrel for us and their significant others. What a great bunch of peaple!

Perhaps Murray will put Mr. Webber on the back burner this year. We will miss the warm weather, turquoise sea, the birds singing all night and the gentle breezes! What a fantastic shoot! Just too soon to travel yet! Take care my friend and...

Good Luck!

Mahalo Mark and Sally and you take it easy and get back to 100% and yes I will have a Sumo burger at least once as I think this will be my last year there.

I know that Darrel Webber will not be there but my whole squad will be.

Hope to come your way next year on my way to the east coast if all goes well.

Hey Toddy,

One year ago today Sally and I loaded up the guns and took off for Hilo for the State shoot. Honeymooned on the ocean. Walked on the beach, played with the sea turtles and lived it up!. I will miss it!
Shoot straight, Take care my friend! Say hi to Garret for us!
