Irregardless of their history and relative cost, based just on shooting pleasure, if you had a choice of a Browning O/U, a Beretta o/u, Remingtom 870 TB, or a Model 12, what would you take and why?

Never forget my first model 12 field grade with a vent rib, took it down to the local gun shop and had some trap wood put on it and been shooting one ever since, Still looking to buy another one to go with the one I have.

Many moons ago the M12 was the mainstay..... Today I have the only one at the club.

Kids and new shooters come up and look at it amongst the 20 or so BT's on the rack and the beautiful Fajen extra-fancy wood and are just amazed by it..... they have never seen anything like it.

It makes SMOKEBALLS all the way to the lightpole. There are days I think I miss a few from 16 with that Win-FULL choke, but I can't seem to part with it and even try a modern trap-gun. I'd love to try an XT or a 682, but I just can't seem to put down that 55 year-old gun.

The only reason I would not shoot a M-12 again is that I can't get a PFS for one. If I were to select another gun to shoot, the PFS would come first and then a gun to go on the stock would be second. Not everyone would agree with my selection criteria.

Ok the question is if you are not into shooting doubles then there is not a better gun than a model-12 of course there are a few quick shucking model-12 shooters out there that has no problem shooting doubles.

I love my 2 that I have I couldn't afford a piegon grade so I went with the skunk grade version instead I can't tell any difference in the smoke balls of the targets.

The Skunk Grade version is probably more rare than the fancy Pigeon grade version im glad I have the very first one made.

I have 3 model 12's a solid rib trap with a straight English stock also a 3 inch with a factory donut post rib and a set of Paul Graff rollover wood plus a 3 inch Super X gun converted to a trap gun many years ago with a duck bill rib this is my back fence game gun with that 3 inch chamber I use 2 3/4 high brass 6's from the porch. Made for Ducks but good for pass shooting clays at 60 yards.

If I could not get a mod.31 rem. the mod. 12 win. would certainly be my 2nd choice, as they are a very close 2nd to the 31s in smoothness & reliability. I have lost track of the # of rounds thru my 31TC. Have had & shot many other peoples mod.12s excellent guns, just prefer 31s, they seem to fit me better. If you find a good one don't let it escape.

I am partial to Model 12's having owned a bunch of them over the years ... I never found a bad Model 12, just some that was better than the others ... I still have some and the one I shot to the back fence is going in the box with me when that day comes ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Addressing the question on your post "would you buy a Model 12 for trap now". With the selection of excellent trap guns on the market today why would you look for a gun they haven't made in 45 years? I had a Model 12 in the early 80's and I never understood the hype about them. It shot were it was pointed just like everything else and kicked worse. If it's just trap your shooting look at the others you mentioned. Also look at some good single barrel trap guns. I'm sure some people here will come unglued over this.

I enjoy shooting my Kolar but could be just as happy with one of my Model 12's. Recoil is not a big issue although the Kolar is certainly softer. I'm one of the few that still shoots one but it always seems to draw some attention when I show up with a Model 12.

If all of these other guns are so great why do we read thread after thread where people are jacking their guns up to try and figure out where in the hell they shoot. I wouldn't buy one gun from anyone on this site especially when the gun starts with a k, p, l,b because the damn thing probably would blow up.

When I started trap shooting in the early 70's, many M-12s in service.
Parts are more difficult to acquire today, but not impossible to find.
I think the choice is yours. They all break targets. Technology has come along way.But personal enjoyment is # 1.
I am sure we all have them in closet.
I first started shooting trap with a Model 21 Trap with beavertail forearm
and I wish I still owned it. In the 70-'s you could buy alot of gun for $1000.00. If only I had known.

Because, "A thing of beauty is a joy forever"

Lotsa stuff available now, some better, some not.

In terms of handling dynamics, my experiences with Model 12's are unparalleled and I don't really know why. I like faster guns. Brownings are nice but usually slower handling.

I own all of the above and wanted to know what others think.

Lotsa good stuff no longer available too.
