Just ask someone if they have ever shot trap? The reply is always,"What is that?" Or "Is that like skeet?" If we want our sport to grow we need to begin to market our sport and compete for new the customers. Word of mouth certainly hasn't worked! Lets hear your ideas on how and where to market our sport.
Label a trap gun an assault weapon and just wait. By mid 2009, the assault weapons ban will clear Congress & certainly will be signed by Obama. You know you can keep up with the AR-15 with my BT-99 by loading it faster. These Einsteins in Congress thinks letting the Bush tax cuts expire is not a tax increase. They certainly can't tell a BT-99 from an AR-15 nor do they care. Merry Christmas, Darrell
Texaszephyr, that was a good idea. There are shows everywhere. Many opportunities. We have to get the local clubs in the area of the shows to man the tables, to answer questions, and maybe some DVDs and a player to put on a show.
How about a day of free shooting with the local TV network sports announcers. They're such Hamms they would get the cameras there. All we have to do is invite them (then hope they show). Bulge
Texaszephyr's idea is novel, and would work. When they have a gun show in a particular state, the ATA (supported by the officers and volunteers from the clubs in that state) might look into manning a booth at the show. Each club could bring their club shoot schedules as handouts. Maybe each club could offer an incentive of some sort to get people out to the club.
The charity events are great...we do them in the horse industry for the rescue organizations. It takes more than a football star to get people out these days. We have had success inviting movie stars that ride. The ATA might do the same. Invite big names, and target their favorite charities (work it backwards like that). Someone like Angelina Jolie, who is into children's charities, is a consertative voter, and often wields firearms in her movies (she likes the competent tough-girl image) would be great. In order to approach someone like that, you would have to show their agents how security would be handled. I would think that the club would have to be closed to the public, and be by invitation only.
