Combo or two guns?

Always had an eye out for the perfect combo but I always seem to have two guns instead. At this time it's particularly preferred cuz the O/U also serves well at the skeet, sporting, 5 stand haunts as well as trap doubles and wobble.....breakemall....Bob Dodd

I have had Rottweil, Citori and Winchester Combos and always felt that something was lacking in the handling. Then I bought my Beretta 682 combo and shot the O/U for everything. I tried the Top Single and it just felt wrong (light and whippy). I then went to a K80 Combo and never could shoot that gun consistently . Then I bought a Ljutic for singles and handicaps and that worked well. After adding a 5oz barrel buddy to the Beretta top single I found that I could shoot it as well as the Ljutic so I decided a combo was the way to go and Kolar would be the one. So far that has been a good decision. Several of the best shooters I have seen use a O/U for everything so I guess it is whatever works for you.
Oh yeah there was a shooter at our state shoot who used a Silver Sietz for singles and handicaps and a Silver Sietz O/U for doubles. Thats like a Combo Deluxe.

NSXER, been there done all of that. I started out with an O/U that I shot for everything. I shot tight and tighter and beat the snot out of me. Then I bought an MX-2000. Later I bought a used 30" 3200 and used that for doubles. The two guns handled completely differently, but I didn't see to have any trouble adjusting. Great, I thought. I sold the 3200 and had Giacomo fit a 32" fixed rib O/U barrel so I had a "real" combo. Wrong!!! The 35" adj rib unsingle and a 32" (really 31.5") O/U made a truly horrible combo, regardless of what the conventional wisdom says.

I sold those barrels and bought a 35' RS-2000RS unsingle with a matching 34" O/U. Both have adjustable ribs. Both weigh within 1/4 oz. of the other, and both move the same. I can switch between the barrels and I don't have to make any adjustments at all. BTW, all barrels shoot to the same POI. Now I'm a happy camper with a true combo.

I fully think there is an advantage to shooting a combo. Get a great stock set up for the Back, you also have the same feel in the forearm. Shoot the O/U for Singles and Doubles and set the single up for a caps breakin machine. I feel this is the proper way to use a combo. Break them all........

Well, I shoot the same combo gun for all games....singles, doubles, caps, wobble trap, skeet, modified skeet, doubles skeet, 5 stand when I shoot it. It's tubed for the small gauges in skeet.

There's a couple of us that do that at my club. We were both top 6 in a 75 person league.

I think there's a lot of benefit in having one gun for everything.

previously used two guns bt99 plus for trap and wobble over under for sporting and five stand. finally purchased a citori trap grade two. sold bt99 and only use o/u for hunting.after about a year with the citori scores have finally improved in all the games. only problem is fixed chokes full and imp /mod. am looking for someone to thread for chokes at a reasonable price. one gun is better.

NSXER,

I am a former two gun shooter. BT-99 Golden Clays 34" for singles and handicap and a Ultra XT with 32" barrels for doubles. Both guns had a different feel even though they both have adjustable combs and Gra-Coils.

My singles and caps scores were ok (AA - 26) but my doubles scores were less than satisfactory (C).

I made the decision to shoot from a common frame and purchased a Caesar Guerini Summit combo 34" / 32". With adjustable ribs on both the unsingle and the OU barrels, I was able to dial in my POI.
I went from a solid C doubles shooter to an almost A shooter in 5 months. I should be in A class after the NE Grand this year.

The combo has worked for me and I did not have to take a second mortgage on my house to purchase one. Great gun, great workmanship, low recoil.
