Pad Adjuster

I currently shoot a monte carlo stock with a pad adjuster. The adjuster drops the pad about 0.5" and rotates the heel of the stock outward a little. I plan on ordering a new stock with 4-way adjustable comb. QUESTION: Should I put a pad adjuster on the new stock or will the 4-way adjustable comb be sufficient? (with the exception of rotating the heel of the pad, of course)

Thanks for any assistance................................AJ

If the new stock is going to be fit to you there shouldn't be a need to have the adj butt plate. If you are buying a generic new stock you may need it. Some shooters are bad to tinker with their equipment. You won't know until you get it on the gun. Larry

I have to "cant" my fixed stock gun as it nests into the pocket of my shoulder. However, my adjustable version of the same gun, has both an adjustable comb and Jones Adjustable Pad butt plate.

The adjustable comb helps with POI and cast. The adjustable pad butt plate allows full range of motion to allow the recoil pad to comfortably fit into the shoulder pocket and minimize canting of that gun... plus, with a small access hole in the face of the pad, I can adjust the pad without having to remove the pad from the assembly...

My $0.02,

A good pad adjuster compensates for three things: a low gun mount, a long neck and the wrong pitch on the stock. (The pad can be rotated to put the toe in the armpit.)

Good ones are 100-Straight, Jones, one by Dennis Devault and the Nelson Pad-Adjuster.

Get a Jones/100 Straight. Mine allows closer to a 1" drop. Also, realize that no matter how thin/or whose the adjuster is, it will lengthen your LOP. Have plans ready to get it back to "normal" if that is what you must have. Thinner recoil pad, stock shortening(yeech!), adjustable LOP recoil reducer, whatever. Good luck.

I agree with every ones comments. Even though I have an adjustable comb I also have the adjustable butt plate on both of my guns with a kick-eez modified pad. If you need to fix the pitch of your gun then take a look at the Kick-ezz modified trap pads. They add some pitch and help the fit right into your shoulder pocket.
