Semi-Auto Powder Flames...

Shooting under the lights in our night league, several (80%+) of my reloads caught by my wire shell catcher on an 1100 still had flashes of flame coming out of them. This is a little distracting when an small ball of fire flashes in front of your face. The load is from the Hodgdon book: STS hull, 19 gr. International Clays, Winchester 12 (white) wad, Rem STS primer. Never saw the flame in the daylight. Have you experienced this? Is this the load? Thanks, Ed

Change from STS primers and go with something else. Winchester W209, Federal 209A, RIOs, and CCI 209M have done well for me at night and in cold weather. Check the data and, if needed, adjust your powder charges accordingly. Some slower powders like Green Dot and International Clays will flame quite a bit when using the STS primers. Faster powders seem to have less of an issue.
