We need ALCOHOL FREE CLUBS. Now that Neil is Pre's he should bann ALCOHOL at all ATA clubs. Just think, you will not walk in to a room full of drunks waving around a loaded gun in everyones face. There is no where to go at a club where you can get away from it. What is a guy to do?
Run for club president on a platform of banning alcohol. Go to a different club. Move to a new area. There are lots of clubs around here that don't allow alcohol. Bill Malcolm
Think about this......Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms....the three most fun things in the entire world.....and also the most heavily regulated things in the whole world...what a shame!!!.......Uncle Sam, Pa.
Tron ... that looks like Gordon on the porch with Gene, BigDon and a few other TS.con people. Was that picture taken at the TS.com tournament shoot this past summer?
If I want to shoot I go to a Range. If I want to be around a bunch of drunks I'll go to a bar. Some clubs have far more drunks than shooters. Neither a safe environment or one that shows the shotgun sports in a good light. You can joke about alcohol all You want but it is a problem at some Clubs.
So if you ban beer from the clubhouse all the drunks will sit in their motor homes and drink their own beer. At least the club gets a piece of the action the way it is. Please tell us how many accidents have occurred on the Trap range resulting from alcohol consumption! Most of the beer drinking trapshooters I know are impossible to detect visually. This is not an amateur group!!
Oleolliedawg, Correct me if I am wrong, but I remember a shooting maybe 3-4 years ago where they were shooting hdcp. and a long yardage shooter shot someone in the head in front of him. I read there was alcohol involved. This was not a ATA shoot.
George ... that sounds like much more than alcohol could have been the cause of that accident. I'm trying to picture in my head standing on the 27yd line on post #3 and picturing even if the shooter to my right or left was 2 yards in front of me just how far off I would have to be to shoot them in the back of the head.
Something tells me that most likely never happened and if it did it was more to do with idiocy than anything else.
Only because it's lunch time and only because I'm waiting for a meeting, I'll add...
I won't shoot any more at any club that serves alcohol while the shooting is going on, and that seems to be most of them. I have never been to a "wet" club that seemed to take any interest at all in the condition of the people who walked, and sometimes wobbled, from the stool to the trap line. I survived a war. I'm not going to volunteer to get my a$$ shot off by a lush with a trap gun.
Ban alcohol, ban smoking, which Illinois has already done.
Tell me you don't like the smell of new Federal Papers, that's next No Federal papers shall be shot on club grounds do to the smoke.
Most shooters and clubs have a rule no alcohol until the shoot is over and guns put away.
Remember the recent thread about the rude guys at their private trap field? I bet they can smoke anywhere they want on their grounds. It is not open to the public. I just don't get why people come on to this site and bitch about conditions at a gun club that they don't run. If you don't like a place, talk to the owners. If they care about your business and/ or you are in the majority, they will make the change. If they own the place and they like it the way it is, maybe you should just go somewhere else. If it is too smoky inside and they do not have chairs, take your own lawn chair and a sandwich. Or better yet, buy the place and make your own rules. Quit your bitching and change YOUR behavior.
BTW, I smoke very rarely, a cigar once or twice a year and I go outside.
