For you Ladies & Gentlemen that will attend your state's shoot in '08, please be advised that you'll no doubt be disappointed with the quality of the trophies.
I procure the trophies for our state shoot and just received the list supplied by the ATA, except for the Shamrock leather goods, the rest is destined for the recycle bin and/or re-gifted for your favorite brother-in-law!
The Singles Champion will receive a "Elk Lamp"....I have to question whatever happened to the nice Americase products that were once in the package????
Just a heads up so as you'll not be surprised when attending your state shoot.
C'mon now....you've been around long enough to know that eastcoast shooter's don't have a real affinity for Elk lamps, desk clocks, grizzly bears and platters.....
The fact that I get to my state shoot this year will be award in its self. How about this. Offer up the cash spent on trophies as class purse $$. I would much rather have the dollar spent on these trophies to use for lunch. Or even a pick a prize sort of thing. You win you get to choose from a catalog or something. I for one do not want a lamp, bar set, glass wear ect ect. A small quality trophy with my personal info on it is even better than some shotshell shaped coffee cup. I was warned in adavance that the prizes can be of flea market variety, I shoot for fun and comp. Any $$$ I may win helps to pay for something. I like to shoot and will continue to do so as long as I can. If everyone left their prizes at the shoot they didnt like maybe it would send a message or go out and shoot them. The same thing happened in our dart league. Used to get good trophies for big scores perfect games ect ect. no more you get a peice of paper that you have to send in for? Anyway. Hope things change by then.
I personally think RINGS would be the best trophy, maybe they should contact JOSTEN'S to have some made. I think with a quantity order they could be made cheaper, The top events would be more elaborate rings and cost more.
Just my personal thought, resizing by the shooter would be his responsibility.
Jerry, dang it...you know exactly how i operate in a shoot off, don't you?? Last year in our state shoot I had to shoot off for short yardage handicap champ. The guy I was shooting against dropped 4 of the first 6, while I was 6 straight.
I couldn't close him out until the 23rd target!! Something about a complete lack of air at the 23 yard line....
Come on up to Alaska this year...I'll make sure you get a trophy. And a steak.
Are the STATE SHOOT TROPHIES the same in each state? including non resident and runner prizes? I got some great prizes this year. Shamrock shooting bag, lobsters, little cash. fun year for me.
I won a handicap state trophy in calif trophy was nice the satisfaction in beating Jerry Parr Dave Kelly and both Bonillas bros and winning the shoot off was increadable every blind squirll will find a acorn i found mine i can complain about a trophy.
I have been fortunate enough to have received some "unusual" local, state and zone tropies. Lucky enough to get a few sattelite grand ones too. I don't much care what they are...they serve to remind me of how blessed I was on that day to shoot a good score and enjoy the company of my friends afterward for some braggin' and bull. I like what old Minnesota Fats used to say ... "If I want a pretty trophy, I'll go and buy one". It's not about the tin cup, its the people the competition and the fun. If its not, trapshooting must be a job.
I won a nice leather bag at the Dixie Grand last year. I have not used it for shooting but I plan to take it back to the Dixie this year and walk around the club house with it under my arm. It will look like I just won it.
re-hashing another old thread. I guess some just have to B&W about the same things all the time. Shut up, shoot and have fun. If you don't like the trophy leave it.
According to the rule book, the ATA doesn't furnish ALL the trophies usually given out at a state shoot. Your State association buys and awards the majority of the trophies given out. Look in your rule book and read which trophies come from the ATA. Section X (E) Perhaps the trophies being complained about didn't come from the ATA.
Curt was referring to the ATA trophy package. A similar package will be at the Dixie Grand. I look forward to seeing an Elk lamp with a light bulb at the end of each antler tip.
This is the elk lamp a trapshooter friend has over his dining room table. The only problem was getting it through the front door when the installer arrived.
Curt was talking about the ATA trophies but bcovey did't appear to be nor was maclellan1911 on nonresident, etc.
I would never want the job of buying trophies for a large shoot, especially the job the ATA has in buying the ones they furnish for all the state shoots and zones. It is a no win job. You can never please everyone on trophies no matter what is given out.
