Draining a 95 Tahoe 5.7L radiator

I have no idea, things change, but I have found service managers to know the answers for these kinds of things right away. If you plan to keep the car for a long time, why not buy a shop manual?

The petcock should be hidden on the bottom vertical section of the tank, drivers side under the shroud, not worth messing with IMO.

If you have a 6 foot or so length of 3/8 hose, non-tox clear works well, just stick it down in the tank to the bottom, get a couple of 1 gallon jugs, suck on the hose til you see coolant over the top and let it drain that way-----not lose a drop. You actually won't need to get out but about 1.25 gallons to get it below the stat.

Be sure to put a good stat back in, and drill a small hole in the flat portion------1/8" will work.

Its stashed pretty good, tough to get at. More times than I care, they break or leak after..... pulling the hose off the water pump is easiest way I have found. Can be messy. You will not loose that much coolant just pulling off the thermo housing. If you need a Stat you most likly need a coolant flush also.

I don't know anything about GM products but for 90's models of Chrysler products I heard something about the dangers of do it yourself thermostat replacement when you get get an air bubble or something in the hoses and the vehicle will overheat because the antifreeze is not circulating properly.

use 7/5s as it will drain quicker than 8's (lol) We use the vac(syphon) method in our shop ,if
you can even get to the petcock, it is plastic now and can break real easy.As some one also noted above. Before you seat the new t-stat in place , fill the block below the t-stat cavity with your new coolant mix, then finish the install and top off the system at the rad cap, this will prevent the air pockets from geting traped in the system. kirk
