My experience - lots of fail to fires in cold weather. They enlarge the hole in a hull rendering it useless for other primers. I gave almost 5,000 away.
They worked good for me. Very slightly less smooth thru the MEC hydraulic. I seemed to have to add about one grain of given powder for same speed. They are larger and once I used them in a case, one could not switch back to Win, Rem, or Fed. That larger size problem was not really a big deal to me, the case will eventually wear out.
I used to use Win 209's. I picked up hulls all over the place and re used them having no idea what primer had been pushed in them before I got them. I am sure some of them were Nobel's and none of my Win 209's fell out. I am now using Nobels because that is all I can get. I have to load once fired hulls in my single stage press the first time bacause they are a little tight and the MEC 9000 won't properly seat them. After that, no problems at all. Used them all through the winter and no ftf's but I do have J&P extended firing pins in my Browning Citori.
Nobels have worked well for me for over 100,000 rounds, in hot and cold weather. I never had a FTF with them; not like winchesters that have had many FTF.
If you only use Nobles in your hulls it doesn't matter that they are larger than other brands.
When I use then in a hull I never use anything but them from that point forward. They are so very slightly larger. I have shot 1000's. No problem and chrono identical to a Winchester.
Been using them for 3yrs , no problems at all. I will never go back to Winchester primers at the price differential. People having problems with these primers simply need a scapegoat.
After using Winchester primers for years I tried 1000 nobelsports. They were okay, but with an occasional odd sounding report (something I have not had with Winchesters). I did not care for that and mentioned it on here in an earlier post several months ago. I was promptly told I didn't know how to reload.... This was apparently from some "know-it-all genius" who must have long-range x-ray vision and who has nothing better to do than watch from afar as I reload.
I have gone back to Winchester primers and have found the primer pockets are not so stretched that they won't work in the hulls that had NS primers. No more of the occasional odd sounding loads.
I certainly would use NS if that was all I could get. However, I prefer Winchester primers.
I just started reloading in february and NS primers were the only primers available. So far I have used 3000 of them with no problems at all. I did notice the first time I used them in STS hulls there was a slight bit of resistence to seating when using my MEC sizemaster, but that resistence went away on the second time those hulls were reloaded. Everyone I have talked to at my trap club says they are fine as long as you stick with them in that lot of hulls. Apparently, the other primers on the market are slightly smaller and they may fall out if you try to use them in the same lot of hulls. Hope this helps.....bendog
They work well, but they do stretch the primer pocket and I have had issues with them in cold weather. I have put Wins back in and also had a few fall out, but very few from the ones I have done. For the price though, they are a good primer to use during the summer.
They are slightly larger than a regular 209 size so if you start using them it is best to continue with them. I've burned up a 5,000 case and had 0 problems with them!
I have used close to 15,000 of them. Work great in Federal paper, especially on 2nd reload as they are slightly larger in diameter. I have had exactly 0 problems shooting them.
All euro primers of the same size. Have shot them all and had no trouble with them through my K80, 3200, 396, and SBE. All very different guns and they all have what they like to eat. Primers have never been a problem with any of them.
Go cheapo on the primer, powder, and wad. Go long on the Magnum shot and the hull IMHO
I shot probably 40,000+ of them, thought they were great. Thought all the stories of off sounding loads FTF etc were overblown. A month before the world last year started having FTF and intermitent poofy sounding loads. Replaced springs , firing pins all with no change. Went to Winchesters and won't go back.
