Yeah, I know it's misplaced but everybody should have a chance to read this article by a writer who had his cyber life annihilated when somebody got around one of his passwods. Sent it to David after he posted for updated passwords, he thought it was an interesting article:

Why a String of Characters Can't Protect Us Any More!

Also some good links to similar articles at the end of each page of text.

This is just the way I precieve the tech world. Anybody that is dumb enough to put anything of importance on a computer. Whether is being banking, stock information or business dealings of any kind only gets what is about to hit him in time. It will happen sooner or later so don't complain when it hits. You 've been warned. I still do things by check. I know its old fashion but seems to still works. I have many friends that have been ripped off more that once on the computer or cell phone. Some finally learned their lesson after terrible loss. And some will never learn cause they are just to lazy to do it the old fashion way. Bill

I'm sorry to piss in your coffee but I hope you understand that all your financial records, your investments, your retirement savings, every detail of your financial life are on somebody else's computer in a big data center somewhere. You didn't put them there but you opened the accounts and that's how every bank and investment company stores its records. You write a good, old fashioned check and the transaction is handled and recorded by a computer. Hand somebody that check and your account number is right there for them to see. Your doctors store all your medical records that way as do your banks, your credit card companies, mortgage companies, insurance companies, businesses, your local, State and Federal governments and on and on.

Like it or not, you're as vulnerable as anybody else. Thousands of details about your life is on somebody's computers somewhere... and you have absolutely no control over that or any way to protect that information!

Not only your passwords, but credit cards are being compromised through use in motels and gas stations. Last year traveling out west I had both of my credit cards information stolen by crooked motel attendants or gas stations when used for gas. Its fast becoming apparent that cash only be used when traveling as places we use credit cards are stealing the information and selling to third parties. roger

unknown, you mean there isn't a guy with a green eyeshade and a high stool minding my bank accounr?

What is this world coming to, anyway?

FWIW if you have a good CC/bank company they will correct misdealings and even call you when something in your account is out of character.

But you need to keep an eye on your stuff and make sure nothing but YOUR transactions are in there. I check weekly for correctness.

Hand me a check and your driver's license for an ID and I now have your account number, bank routing number, address, driver's lic #, Date of Birth, etc.

All without having to log on or hack into you computer. There is nothing less secure in this world than a hand written check.

If you think there's nothing about you on the internet I suggest you log onto one of the credit reporting agencies websites and request your free annual credit report. Take whatever heart/stroke/BP medicine you take and sit back and be shocked what the rest of the world knows about you that you didn't even notice about yourself.

Ever go to the Doctor? You do know there's this thing called the Medical Information Bureau right? They track all your medical records for insurance companies. Same thing with your perscriptions...all in a database.

I bet I can go online and check your property records and tell you how much you paid for your house and when you bought it!

Your info is online whether you think you are or not...

Bill forgets or does not realize it but that old hand written check he writes gets scanned in to the banks computer system and presto your life's info is now cyber. Face it, ain't much old fashioned bill paying left. I fought the system for a long time until my employer forced direct deposit of my pay checks. After that I figured why fight it.
