Vote on the issue

Take off on "Don't change the ATA."

With the advent of the Internet, why is not possible to allow the greater membership to vote on major issues? A vote could be held over a two month time frame, for instance. Perhaps one could either vote on the Internet using a membership number or use snail mail.

I'm not suggesting the membership vote on insignificant issues. However, as an example of something I would like to vote on would-be 1 1/8 versus 1 oz. loads. Which has been debated on the site, many times. I'm not a adverse to allowing the president and central committee to make decisions on the day-to-day running of the organization. But I would like a say, via my vote on what I consider to be the more important issues.

What are important issues to you that you feel, you might want to vote on? Maybe, Neil Winston might take a look at allowing the membership to vote and bring it up with the board.

I'm not sure an internet vote on issues facing the ATA would represent a majority of the members. That's why we have Delegates to represent us. If you have issues with how the ATA is run talk to your Delegate. If enough people feel the same as you then enough Delegates will be hearing the same things and it will be brought up for a vote by the BOD (Delegates). I dont think TS.com represents a majority of the ATA.

Boys and girls, it is time for a reality check. When was the last time your delegate asked your opinion on anything. Did he/she really ask or present their opinion and ask if you agreed? The delegates are nothing more than groups of friends with like interests. They protect the club and if you are a free thinking delegate then you will never become a member of the EC and President. If you are going to rely on your delegate to serve your best interests you better have the same opinions that they have. Remember when the membership voted not to go to Sparta? Dod the delegates vote as you did? NOT FOR MOST OF THE MEMBERSHIP! Original thinking delegates or those who want to see changes for the good of the >27 yard shooters don't get to the EC. I don't know the background but Tom Ford, who was a great delegate for the shooters of CT and loved this game elected not to run and doesn't even shoot registered anymore. He was an independent thinker and he is gone/ cracker

firecracker,

I'm not going to argue with your position. I simply want to satisfy myself that you have a valid basis for it. You wrote:

<I>"Remember when the membership voted not to go to Sparta? Dod the delegates vote as you did? NOT FOR MOST OF THE MEMBERSHIP!"</I>

Would you be kind enough to post the numerical results of that vote? I don't remember receiving any official ballot nor did I receive the results of any vote.

Thank you Firecraker, you are so right about Sparta. The only name you did not use was THE GOOD OLD BOY CLUB. It was posted here on TS.com just after the vote. It showed who voted yes and who voted no. The ones who voted yes did so because they were told to. It was not the members who told them to vote yes. The members told them to vote NO. Some if not most were then voted out of office because of their deaf ear to the members. I hope someone can come up with that posting thread or sheet.

I am from Texas. Gary Sherrod is our delegate. At our meeting at the state trapshoot he would always bring up the topics that were likely to be raised at the delegate meeting at the Grand so he could present the view of Texas shooters. We showed by voice vote or by a show of hands what our views were.

He took those views and presented them at the Grand. I was a spectator at some of the meetings and he presented our views and voted them. During the move discussions he was not popular but he did not waffle - he faithfully represented Texas shooters.

hauser: I suspect most members of the ATA don't know and have never seen their delegate (except as a name in a book). Futhermore, as a club members no one has ever asked me if I would like to vote on an issue, either state or nationally. Maybe it's time to change the way it's always been done, and give a real voice to the membership. At least on far reaching issues. Even a straw pole once in a while would be better than nothing. And why can't it be conducted by E-mail or snail mail if some of the old geezers don't have a computer.

No offense but the membership doesn't know jack.

You make my point when you said "I suspect most members of the ATA don't know and have never seen their delegate (except as a name in a book)".

If they cant or wont take the time to know or communicate with their delegate then how can their judgment be trusted on critical issues. Most if not all delegates are very open and try to respond to most questions from shooters in their state I know ours does.

So why in the world would we want the open membership to vote on anything when for the most part they are too lazy to call, write, or E-mail their elected representative??
