Is 50K registered targets a big deal?

I've been shooting since 2003 and in-between working and helping raise 3 young kids, I've managed to shoot enough registered targets that I will likely hit the 50,0000 milestone later this summer.

I have also been fortunate enough to shoot with friends (all older) when they broke their 100k and 150k milestone targets.

Is the 50k milestone really a big deal? I do want to make at least the 100k plateau, but I will not likely do it in my friends' lifetimes. I enjoyed celebrating their milestone targets, and would like to be able to reciprocate, but I don't want to make it out to be more of a deal than it is.

Thanks everyone for your input.

I had an older guy tell me that all things figured, about 50,000.00.
Yep and that was back when targets were cheap. So it's bound to be more than that now.

I got both my 50 in Handi and Singles the last couple of years. Mentioned it to some of the squad I was shooting with. They were nice about it but not "impressed"

oh, and congrats. :)

Brian, After reading your post, I'm not sure that you understand that those milestones, 25K, 50K, 100K etc apply to each 'type' of target (16yd, HCP, Dbl) not total targets.

My apologies if you already know that. I mention it because you never mentioned your 25,000 target milestone or which 'event' you're going to hit 50,000.

Regardless, that's a lot of targets in 8 years. I consider it an accomplishment. I've acheived my 25,000 milestone in 16 and HCP. My wife thinks I've shot a lot.

How many registered targets you have shot is meaningless and pap for ATA shooters just like TheHolyAverage.

You could shoot a million registered targets and have an average of 99 and still be a consistent and maybe total non-winner. Congratulations.

This is the kinda crap that is at the heart of what is wrong with the ATA. JMO of course but just take a look around and see what the average and targets crap buys you.

Gosh semper why don't you just knock the man down and step on him. Oh by the way your DA attitude sucks. By the way look in the mirror and you will see what's wrong with this sport.

Hooked; yes it means something. Any personal goal means something to you when you reach it and the pursuit is the fun. Satisfaction in reaching it can be yours alone or shared with others, your choice. Good luck and enjoy the ride.

Phil, It is Gerald (Jerry) Burkhart. He shot Robinson in the winter, and Ohio, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania in the warmer months.

I had the honor and pleasure to shoot with him shortly before his passing. I doubt that his record will be broken.

To the OP, Congrats on 50k targets. It is a milestone.

Obviously the More is Better attitude of the ATA has been eaten whole by far too many. It is just as obvious that MiB is total BS when it comes to actual what did it get you.

You are perfectly free to act on and take to heart any meaningless stat you care to. Unfortunately it is still meaningless in terms of actual performance.

I was not attacking anyone personally. The system sux - deal w/ it.

Like how many miles did Dale Earnhardt drive? Who cares?

You have to shoot X number of targets in singles, handicap, and doubles to make the state team qualification. If you have a life beyond trapshooting, tuff to do. (15) 3 event days @ at a cost of $1,500 plus shells and transportation

Some people live to trapshoot, some don't.
