Shooting "off the barrel/bead": Clarify???

I've heard two terms: "shooting off the barrel" and "shooting off the bead"....I really don't know what these terms mean and/or if they mean the same thing. Example, I read someplace that an unsingle barrel is ideal for somebody who "shoots off the barrel"...

I always thought a shotgun "works" thusly: The shooter's eye is the rear site. The bead/barrel is seen in the periphery, but the eye is to focus on the target. One is not "supposed" to look back at the barrel, but "discovers or sees" the bird/bead relationship in the visual periphery.

So....what does the term(s) mean in trap lexicon/jargon?

Thanks.

Shooting

As I understand it, to shoot a gun higher than the traditional figure eight. If you see a lot of gap between the front and mid beads you are shooting off the bead.

The adjustable rib took care of it. You still focus on the bird.+..

Shooting

Stare (focus) at an object in the distance. Then put your gun barrel on under the object without shifting your gaze. If you are a two eyed shooter the bead will remain blurred.

If this is the case how can anyone shoot off the bead???? If your focus is on the target the target will remain clear in your vision. The bead will remain blurred. The only time the bead will be in focus is if you look at it.

Shooting

I shoot with some guys who remove the front bead of their guns to prevent bead checking. I understood that these guys were "shooting off the barrel" as opposed to "shooting off the bead." I agree that the target must be in sharp focus and the bead (or end of the barrel) should be a "ghost image" registered by the subconscience. Seems to just be a matter of semantics. Jack
