I'm going through my guns and evalueating replacement cost of each one. I do this every year for insurance purposes. I'm having problems with one of my Marlin 1894's in assesing its true value, so any help would be appreciated.
Disc. Marlin 1894S lever action carbine w/ full length mag. tube. It is a straight stocked gun in 97% or better shape both wood and blueing. It is all original and never had a scope mounted to it. The action was worked over by one of Bob London's buddies and is slicker than any of the cowboy comp's that I've handled. The only unusual part of this gun is its chambering, 41 Rem. mag. Any help in attaining a value for this gun would be appreciated.
I can't bring myself to mount a scope on it as I don't want to mar the top of the reciever. I guess I'm going to have to leart to shoot it with the open sites for this years deer season.
A 41 will nock them dead in their tracks at 100 yds with a 240gr. bullit. Ballistic wise a 41 gives up very little to the 44 and the recoil is more managable.
As far s legal, the great state of Indiana has seem fit to open up firearms season to straight cased pistol cartriges in rifles. The accepted rounds are: 357 mag, 41 mag, 44 mag, and 45 LC. They are very specific to loaded height measurements and these all fall into place. This is the first year that these calibers are legal in a rifle. They always have been in a pistol.
I've not shot a deer with one. I have plugged a few piggies..the longest shot happened to be on one of the larger ones..almost 300lbs at 115 yards with 320 hard cast lead bullet in the head ...DRT (DRT= Dead Right There)
They (deer)sure "tumble" from a 45acp out of a Marlin camp carbine at 75yds. One shot kills from a seemingly "wimpy" round (the perfect round for heavily populated areas). I've been told that more deer have been killed with a 22 than any other single caliber.....merlyn...
