Business Idea for Gun Clubs - Christmas Present

I haven't seen a gun club offer this.

Print up Christmas-ey 10-round punches, and sell them at a Christmas discount. A trapshooter can put a punch card on his Christmas list, and they can be purchased to get new shooters out to the range.

This needs to be put in motion, now, so I can put the word out and ward off less desired presents.

My Club has been selling 50-Round Trap Cards for years for $125.00 (member price). After a card-holder finishes shooting, they use a conductor's punch to mark off rounds shot (honor system). When they finish a card, they buy another. It's very popular and encourages lots of shooting.

What makes you think all clubs are hurting for more business?

Why would they sell rounds for less money when they have people willing to pay more?

What surveys, studies, other evidence that this marketing ploy contribute to the clubs or trapshooting in general?

If bitter = calling a spade a spade, then sure.

Take your newly minted marketing certificate you got from Ivy Tech elsewhere.

Rick - the only main advantage to the punch cards is having the money up front. However, with the volatile price or targets and the shoestring margin that most clubs throw targets at, in some instances, it can be a disaster for the club.

Around my area, it works well because most shooters will have them for two months max. The ones that could kill you in the above scenario are the ones who hold onto them longer. The flip side is the guy that buys one on Saturday and uses the whole thing by Sunday.

Silver Dollar has a punch card system and for a while you could purchase a card and use it during the "big shoots" (state, grands). We made a killing on those when we were down there cause our whole squad would buy 2 of them and use them up in a 4 day span. If I remember correctly, they stopped doing this for the big shoots.

You also make a great point - if a club is doing well, why bother? Could be just a good will type of thing - reward repeat customers. But, if you start offering it, it's tough to stop and not lose customers.

Sorry for any typos. Doing this on an iPad

P.S. PissyIndyShotgun - another question dodged. Bravo!

Yes, I have shot at clubs that use the cards, but we don't use them at our club.

I too curse the IPad when it thinks it knows what I want to type.

"Rick - the only main advantage to the punch cards is having the money up front. However, with the volatile price or targets and the shoestring margin that most clubs throw targets at, in some instances, it can be a disaster for the club. "

This is insane and so obviously wrong. Oliva, please take at least one class in both Accounting and Finance.

"You also make a great point - if a club is doing well, why bother?"

You have no idea how much this explains about you and those like you.

"Could be just a good will type of thing - reward repeat customers. But, if you start offering it, it's tough to stop and not lose customers."

You're now on both sides of the discussion?

Wow. I guess you took your Accounting and Finance courses from a correspondence course provided by Sesame Street. Stop for a second - why don't you see a "by 100 gallons get 5 free" punch cards at gas stations? Yup, volatile prices. Or at office supply stores? Yup, shoestring margins.

On another note, PissyIndyShotgun has dodged yet another THREE questions! Seriously thinking about getting a tote board or something.

The only club I have noticed that use the punch card system in this area are those who have the highest prices to begin with.

We have one club located on a state park and you have to pay some $80.00 for a parks pass to get on the site, they they have a 7.50 price per round for non members.

Only if you are a member to you get a punch card and a discount.

There are some clubs that try to limit the amount of people or non members from coming to the club.

Our club is open to the public for trap shooting (not rifle or pistol) on weekends only and the rounds of trap are higher for non memebers and we do not offer punch cards. The only time we lower the price for a practice round is when we hold an ATA shoot and then we charge the same price as a member. There are several clubs in our area that do the same thing.

While I understand what you are trying to do, the ATA has no control over the hundreds of gun clubs across the country and they must only abide ATA rules, when they hold an ATA shoot. The rest of the time, they won't care what ATA says.

You have to remember many clubs are made up of memberships that include pistol, rifle, archery, and shotgun shooters. Only a few practice all the disciplines.
In our club, the trap shooters are outnumbered 10 to 1. Your program would not have a chance passing at my club.

"Stop for a second - why don't you see a "by 100 gallons get 5 free" punch cards at gas stations?"

You do, genius. There are several 5% gas rebate cards. How can you not know this? You are so grossly wrong on almost everything.

Here are your five free gallons. It's more than you've ever done for me.

But, Rick, your explanation just makes too much SENSE.

Scrap the tote board, let's play "what PissyIndyShotgun will say next"

My guess - "Rick, you are just plain wrong and I know soooooo much more in my infinite wisdom about marketing Automatic Ball Trap that I learned while taking a online course from Whatzammata U. You guys are just OBVIOUSLY bitter over the fact that my vast knowledge is infinetely larger than yours. I will dodge your questions now."

BTW, Rick - my name is John Voliva

Yeahhhhhh.... That's cash back bub. Not free gasoline. Kind of a big difference there, eh?

And before you say, but you can buy gas with that cash! Lemme give you a scenario.

You by 100 gallons of gas at $2.50 a gallon. That's $250. 5% of that is $12.50. YOU go back to the gas station expecting to get 5 gallons of gas (because 5% of 100 is 5, right?). But wait! Gas is now $4 per gallon. You now only get 3.125 gallons.

Again. There are no punch cards or anything close to a buy 10 get 1 free type of "punch cards" at gas stations. Or offiice supply stores. There is cash back offers - either because of slim margins, volatile prices or both.

So, just so you get a chance to dodge yet another question, I will give you an easy one. What is your name, IndyShotgun? if you need help, it is probably sewed into the back of your underwear.

"While I understand what you are trying to do, the ATA has no control over the hundreds of gun clubs across the country and they must only abide ATA rules, when they hold an ATA shoot. The rest of the time, they won't care what ATA says."

Then those clubs don't participate.

Lucky you, WCR. Imagine how nice it would be if all shooters could add those to their Christmas list and know that these cards could be easily purchased by people who don't have the slightest interest in shooting.

Some people are contrary just to be contrary. Only on TS is more shooting a bad thing.

"Yes - those clubs that want this program are doing it already and those that don't, aren't. So for the clubs that are already doing it, why would they do this?"

What? Do you even know what this discussion is about?

You're just harping to hear yourself crow, and you're just generally being obstreperous and a nuisance.

Here's you on anything productive and constructive.
