I am looking for opinions and real life experience of anyone who has used the Autumn Gold transition lenses.

Thanks in advance.

Ive had mine for about 2mo, they are on the dash of my truck the

best sun glasses I think I have ever used. Also the only shooting

glasses that I have used science I got them. Bright of day or under

lights at league. Wayne said I would like them, he was right

I tried them for the first time Saturday, sporting clays. Cloudy, and then sun. I had no problems even in the clouds. The lens adjusted well to the light conditions. The lens does not get too dark for day time shooting, not like traditional transitional lenses. The clarity of the lens is excellent. Pricey, but that is expected with trivex. The definition of of objects is increased. I got the lenses from http://www.cleartargetoptics.com/form.html
The bird is true to color. If you are looking for a lenses to high light the bird it may not be for you. But the contrast is what I am looking for. Autumn Gold may become my only day time lenses. The lens color is easy on the eyes no fatigue. Have not shot them under lights. 10Tenner

Can fill your old frames or stock Post4 frames. The lenses must be lab manufactured, cut from a blank. At this point, there is no indexing available for strong sphere numbers. Although the Trivex is so clear there is no clarity distortion based on lens material, as you would get from poly. Trivex is available in a clear blank and can be tinted with the same results a Cr-39. Polycarb does not like tint. Expensive....yes, compared to poly or plasic, but offers clarity and safety. They are your eye, you make the decision. The high-end shooting frame and lens market makes no claim of safety or has any liability. At the same time, I know of no shooting accident on a clay field that eyes were at risk.

Had a pair of Decot Revels fitted with Autumn Gold Transitions lenses a couple of weeks ago by Maltz (1 week turnaround, very reasonable pricing).

I had great expectations for these lenses and initially was not impressed. They never quite got as dark as I thought they would, I guess I was looking for a broader range of transition.

Anyway, in the few times I looked through them at targets, trying to decide on a lens for the day, the Autumn Transitions never showed me more than other color lenses on my Rangers (usually a shade of purple, sometimes orange).

That changed this past weekend. In an afternoon, where it was overcast and shooting against a background that was leafless trees with some sky showing behind, these lenses were fantastic.

With my limited experience, I would venture to guess that these will be my go to lenses anytime a shade of yellow is called for (and yes, I did compare them to my Ranger Yellows and the Autumn Transitions were markedly better).

Just thought I'd pass along my experiences.

To note both ends of the transition, let the lenses set in the sun for a while. Dash of your truck. Most trapshooters wear a cap and blinders, shading the lenses from direct solar contact reducing the range of transition during use. The transition during fall and winter is less apparent due to the low sun in the sky condition, reducing available light. In lab terms, you will start with a tint#2 gold and transcend to a max of tint#3 orange bronze. Both are good daytime colors in most weather and seasonal conditions. Both tend to please shooters that like yellow and orange based shooting colors. If your a guy that thinks the day brightens during reduced light conditions when putting on glasses with yellow. Your going to like the Autumn Gold. If your eyes tend to like red based colors, you may not find the Aris Golds any more effective than what is presently preferred. Although all human eyes find red relaxing or theraputic. Those with any degree of red-green color blindness, stay with the red based shooting colors. Its a color your eyes need.

Trivex, or a variation of Trivex lens material like in Autumn Golds, offers Cr-39 plastic clarity and safety in the range of polycarbonate. Those of you shooting in poly will notice the clarity difference. Those of you shooting in Cr-39 will enjoy less lens chipping and cracks, with better protection for your eyes.

Aris Autumn Gold will cost you $100.00 more per set of lenses than plastic or poly. Only comes in 74mm size blanks, where lenses like Ranger XWL are 74mm and can not be manufactured in Rx or plano based on width.

I started a thread about eye floaters and got good information about surgery etc. but no one answered my original question about finding a lens color that reduces the annoying presence of floaters. I have always needed a tint on a bright day or I would squint my sensitive eyes with a clear lens. I now find the light or clear lenses even more troublesome for floaters against a sky background than previous years before the floaters. I have shot my best scores with vermillion colored lenses. So far on a cloudy day against the sky background, Lite Medium Target Orange seems better than clear because of a need to darken the background. Would these transition lenses work for me ? Vitreous surgery is not an option.

I have used my new Autumn Gold lenses for a total of two times and both those times were in the last two weeks. In a word or two: I like them. They aren't going to WOW you, but they will provide a very clear clay against different backgrounds. And after using them for an extended period, I believe they might just qualify for a reserved WOW! Personally, I don't plan on using any of my other 13 tints anymore. It's going to be Autumn Gold from now on or nada. I'm getting sick and tired of changing conditions in the middle of the round, then changing tints and choosing the wrong ones and dropping birds in the process. The range of Autumn Gold makes them perfect for any changes in lighting conditions or sky & backgrounds. Did I say I liked them?

And thanks Maltz for your stand-up attitude with our Autumn Gold adventure. If any of you are looking for a pair, I think Steve is the 'go-to' guy for these specialty lenses. The man knows his trade from every angle, and he stands by his commitments of service to his customer and shooting friends...

Mike....no color, lens material or gimmick will eliminate those floaters. Relaxed vision would be your best option. A density issue and colors that are friendly to your eyes. Google "theraputic lens tint colors".

They are a range of colors that have been tested to be relaxing to the human eye. The tints cost no more than the hundreds of others available. The shooting industry has selected a few colors from a lab chart that have some precieved advantage for accent or contrasting target colors with background. Given those colors unique names not on the chart, but can be matched. The same is true for the theraputic selection. The Autumn Gold trans is not part of that range of theraputic colors. The reason for the differences in perception by each of us is a result of our own eyes and the eye poker or the optician can not see through your eyes. The right optical correction, personal color selection, and clear lens material allowing your eyes to relax is your best choice.

Thanks very much for the info, Maltz. I didn't know that there was such a thing as therapeutic lens colors. My old lenses actually have the Blue Blocker filter in them and according to the link above the blue light is the cause of glare that I can do without. My next task would be to find an optical shop who could actually help me with lens colors instead of me just making wild expensive guesses at something suitable.

I have had my Autumn Gold lens about a month and have used them at least three times a week. I am very pleased with them. I do wish that they would get a little darker. last week end was the only time that I could see any difference in them getting darker . I also got mine from maltzahn. very good service. I sent him my prescription and a pair of my Decot Frames. He did the rest. I have also talked to him , since I have had them . No problem getting him on the phone. They are the only glasses i have used since getting them .
