The last few years we have been staying in Nashville, IL and commuting to The Grand each day. We have not found any decent restaurants between Nashville and Sparta. Does anyone know of any that they would recommend? The towns that we pass through are; Sparta, Tilden, Marissa, Coulterville, Oakdale, St. Libory, and Nashville. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks.

Southside Ribs,903 S Saint Louis St, Sparta, IL (618) 443-2200 ?

We pretty much eat here almost evey night and also have lunch here a lot of the time...very simple...just plain good food and nice folks...their smoked pork chop is to die for and their bread pudding is out of this world.

All I can say, if this is the best that is available for dining in the vicinity of the grand, another reason to go to the Cardinal.

Phil Berkowitz & I'm not from Ohio--I will not drive 900 + miles for junk food & worse accomodations.

Build it right & we'll come---there's more to a shoot besides targets/

635 I don't know what you were reading or what you eat but I think that a good steak, rib, chops and other gooding isn't junk food. They must not have any of these at the Card place. Must only have good food like Micky D's and the King hey.

I stay in a real nice house with 3 other shooters for $125 a night. Air, big screen tv four bedrooms and 2 baths 16 miles from the trap line. Not what I would call bad accomidations. There are lots of houses and nice hotels around. All within 45 minutes. I drive aleast that far to shoot at home. Just stay home and whine. Don't need anymore of your type in Sparta I always have a good time in the evenings as well at the WSC. You obviously haven't been there by the way you say "if this is the best that is available". If you had been there you would know better than to make a dumb statement like that.

DON1911--It's Reid's Harvest House. They have good food and i believe they serve seafood on Friday nights. I know they use to have frog legs on Friday nights too but you had to get there early as they would disappear fast. I haven't eat'n there in several years.

Hello, I highly recommend at LEAST one trip to "Pistol City" Restaurant in Coulterville, IL. (I suggest that you make it early on in your stay with us here in Southern IL., as I suspect that once you go there for the first time, you will very likely want to go back.... several times....)
I, personally like the Flat Iron steak, their Hamburgers and their buffet are usually very good as well, particularly their Friday night Seafood Buffet (which features the very best Spicy Jambalaya that I have ever had)....
Do yourselves a favor, try it at least once... I would be willing to bet that you won't be unsatisfied, and if, for whatever reason you aren't satisfied, I'm sure that they staff there will take care of you accordingly. Though, I can say that I have never had a "bad" meal there.
Hope that you all try it and hope that you all like it.
Talk to you all shortly,
- Jim Douglas II
