Phoenix, AZ Shooters - Ammo???

I've recently relocated to the Valley of the Sun. So far I like it a lot. I've just gotten settled to the point where I can do a little shooting at my new club - Rio Salado Sportsman's Club. I haven't made the drive over to Ben Avery yet but am looking forward to that.

My question is - Where is the best place to buy my 12 ga. target ammo locally? Specifically, I am interested in Federal Papers.

I have a Dick's and Wal mart near by so I won't starve, but finding the Federals usually requires a bit more effort. I haven't asked around the club yet but that's on the list of things to do.

Thanks for any input!

WELCOME to The Valley of the Sun. We are glad you are here, don't let this summer weather get you down. Starting in October until April You will be Happy about the Relocation. That being said, Sportsmans Warehouse is a good place to get Ammo on a regular basis, Although Dicks and Walmart are a good source for inexpensive Ammo such as Remington Gun Clubs, and Federals, as far as Federal Papers I am sure Sportsmans Warehouse would have them at one of the best prices in town and they are on the way to Ben Avery Clay Target Center. Please do try to make it to B.A.C.T.C. it is a great place to shoot and have some Great Registered shoots in the GOOD WEATHER. There is also a league there that shoots every Wednesday, Hot or Cold Weather. Again, WELCOME to the Valley of the Sun.

SevenMaryThree, welcome to the area. When I,m snowbirding there Rio Salado is very convenient, especially when you figure out the shooting hours of activity. Great place with some very nice people. Having said that, you need to get over to Ben Avery, an easy drive from where you're at. Good pricing and a great facility and there again, some very nice people. You can shoot 7 days a week if you choose :) Best wishes and enjoy the area, Bob

Welcome to the Valley of the Sun ... There doesn't seem to be much demand for Federal Papers probably because of the price but you can call Frank @ FET Guns and Componants and he will get you as good a price as can be had especially if you buy in volume ... His number is (602) 708-0982, his place of business is up near Deer Valley Airport so its easy to get to for picking your order up ... He buys a lot of shells and gets some pretty good deals, if there is a deal to be had ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Thank you gentlemen. I'm enjoying the summer heat and the monsoon season. Coming from Michigan, this weather is *fantastic.* I love the sauna! The only thing I really miss so far is having my good friend Tron 10 minutes away. I guess I'll have to find another beer drinking gunsmithing boyfriend. :(

Honestly I'm not much of a trap shooter at all, but if anyone would like to meet up and shoot Sporting or 5-Stand feel free to drop me an IM. I will probably try to shoot at Rio this coming Saturday morning.

Thanks again for the leads on ammo.

I also just bought a home in the Valley, I'll be moving from Chicagoland. I cant wait to get away from this state. I was looking for a few things when I get down there.

Is there anywhere to get reloading supplies, Locally?

Is there a club where they shoot "Games" I doubt the Ben Avery allows that.

Whos got the best deal on a round of trap?

Thanks for any info.

Speedy - I'm originally from Chicago. Where in the valley is your new home?

They shoot Wobble at Rio Salado. I know they also do dove flurries and the like, but as far as Annie Oakley, Protection, whatever...I haven't found that. I think for serious trap shooters Ben Avery seems to be the ticket. I'm in the same boat for (gasp) Skeet.

Rio Salado is *a lot* of bang for the buck. Family memberships are almost too cheap for the facilities they provide. Sporting targets are $20 /125 for members and the targets aren't bad, either. It's not a master level course but a decent recreational presentation.

Drop me an IM when you get here. I'll be happy to shoot with you.

They used to shoot Annies/Protections at Red Mountain on Thursday evening before they closed, I thought they moved the games to Rio Salado so you might want to ask someone out there about that ... I don't think the people at Ben Avery have ever been approached about games but I wouldn't bet any money on it one way or the other ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

If you are not into shooting registered targets, Rio Salado will be perfect for SevenMaryThree. Their prices, if you buy a shoot card are very reasonable and they offer 5-stand, sporting, wobble and trap shooting. They have a lot going on in addition to shotgun sports, also. And for some of us...it is very close to home. Of course, if you want to shoot registered targets, skeet or bunker...Ben Avery is the place to go. And they have several sporting clays courses.

As WPT mentioned...get ahold of Frank at FET guns and he can help you out with shell and component orders.

And, welcome to the Valley of the Sun!

It looks like I'll be driving a good distance to any club out here, I'm in Goodyear right off I-10 at Litchfield Rd. I got spoiled my last club was only six miles away, and another about 20. I'm suprised there isn't more clubs in the Valley area. With great weather and a state thats much more gun friendlly than I'm used to back in IL.

I'm sure I'll figure out alot more when I get to meet the regulars at the clubs. I cant wait to shoot this winter, that'll be so sweet.

What lens colors seem to work well out here?

I'm not sure about Beretta gunsmiths per se, but during the winter chain, there will be a bevy of gunsmiths who will be able to repair any make gun. Tony DeSimone is an excellent gunsmith who should be able to take care of a Beretta, however, I'm sure he is on his way to the Grand. Maybe someone else can answer that question. Also, whether you are shooting ATA or just shooting for fun, check out the Arizona State Trapshooting Association's (ASTA) webpage as it will give you information on some of the gun clubs in the state. Only those how throw registered targets are listed, however.
See above for a link.
