As the rule reads there is no yardage group earned yardage. The only earned yardage is for the High scores and ties of high scores. At least in the ATA other associations I don't know and you didn't stipulate.

D. EARNED YARDAGE

1. Yardage will be automatically earned by shooters of high scores in all ATA registered events, according to the following table. This additional yardage is indicated by punches on the shooter’s Average Card.

EARNED YARDAGE TABLE

High Scores (and all ties)

Shooters 1st 2nd 3rd 4th

15-39 1/2 yd

40-69 1 yd

70-124 1 yd 1/2 yd

125-249 1 yd 1 yd 1/2 yd

250-499 1 1/2 yd 1 yd 1/2 yd

500-1499 2 yds 1 1/2 yds 1 yd 1/2 yd

1500 and up 2 1/2 yds 2 yds 1 1/2 yds 1 yd

Was this a PITA or an ATA shoot? MIKETMX is right. If ATA, it's based on the entire fields scores. The only exception is if you shoot 96, 97, 98, 99, or 100.

96 gets an automatic 1/2 yd

97 gets an automatic 1yd

98 gets a minimum 1yd or more depending on # of shooters.

99 and 100 gets a minimum 1yd or more and again depends on # of shooters.

"I know what the rule book states, that is my question. When the rule book states High Scores and all ties, isn't it refering to the number of shooters you are actually competing against??"

Not to be mean or a wise a** but from your question you don't know what the rule states. If you did you would know that no matter what your yardage. If you shoot the high score or tie it you get punched. How would that be someone you are not actually competing against.

As anyone can win the Handicap event at any time. From any yardage how can you not be competing against all shooters??? Competing and being competitive are two different things.

BTW daddiooo a 100 in handicap automatically get 1 1/2 yds.

Please excuse a redundant question but I'm new to this game.... As a new member of ATA I have a hdcp of 20. If I shoot in a Big 50 locally (registered targets) and I score in the top four I gain yardage? I don't understand the earned yardage table above.

See page 69 of the Rule Book.

The number of registered shooters in the Big 50 event will determine how many "places" earn yardage.

I would be more than a bit surprised if a Big 50 event had 50 shooters, let alone 500. So I don't think you'll ever earn more than 1/2-yard for the high score. And that will only be accomplished by having the high score with 15 - 39 registered shooters, or shooting a 50 x 50 (regardless of the number of shooters.)
