Hello, I’m the coach of a Youth SCTP/AIM Shotgun Team and I humbly come to this group asking for assistance. We have 34 kids this year and many of my first year shooters are not only new to Trap but new to firearms in general. I’ll try everything in my power to help these kids stay shooting. It’s good to see firearm neutral families embracing the shooting sports.

Anyway, I hate to come begging but as you can see from my wish list below, it takes a lot to run a quality Youth Trap Program. Although necessary, most of these items don’t get approved on NRA Grant requests. If you take away the first four big ticket items, I think you would agree that most are just odds and ends that keep a program going. As you can see, this list doesn’t include all the ammo, awards, uniforms, safety equipment and range fees that the shooters are responsible for.

I know times are tight for everyone but if you have something on this list that you are no longer using we would put it to good use. Our program is a fully qualified 501(c)3 tax exempt charitable organization, any and all donations are tax deductible, very welcome, and greatly appreciated.

I'm going to make a suggestion that you might also want to contact any local chapters of Ducks Unlimited, Buck Busters or Turkey /Quail organiizations.
I know for a fact that these organizations have assisted these youth shooting programs in my area. Shooting, guns safety & hunting all have a common bond.
Colonel
Find your local 4-H coordinator and become a certified instructor! Under their umbrella the Friends of the NRA grant money will be available to you.
Your shooters will have to become 4-H members which is no big deal.
One other issue is any thing you purchase with the grant money stays with the club and a annual report is required.
Get a couple of other guys to want to be instructor's, and go for it!!
Reread your post, your 501 should have helped with the FofNRA grants, unless you have different state laws then what we have here in WA. Just about everything on your list is allowed here. You have to have a good grant writer and person at the Committee meeting where grants are approved and rejected to speak on behalf of your club.
Our groups around here have been very successful in getting FofNRA grants. FFA and 4-H clubs, YES we have some rural schools that allow shooting sports!
Hi Rick, any kind of donation is greatly appreciated. We have Dick's, Gander Mountain, and Staples. There is a link to PayPal on our website if that is convent for you to use. Good old postal service mail works just fine and yes that is my address.

timberfaller, we did apply and received an NRA Grant...thank you so much Friends of the NRA... this year but some of the things on the list were not approved. Stocks, LOP adjusters, Gun Racks and cases were not approved. The NRA Grants have a new way of doing things where you buy your supples from there store. We did receive ammo and targets and some registrations fees for our State Shoot.
colonel klink, we are developing a donation request letter and compiling a list of area organizations and Sportsmen's Clubs to send to. I'll look into your suggestions...thanks
Hey, Roger...when we get home from San Antonio we will go through what we have and send it. I'll call you or Maddie and let you know what we have before we send it.
Also, MD government surplus over by Ft. Meade usually has stuff...you have to check periodically. It's at 8037 Brock Bridge Rd in Jessup and is open to the public, but if you can use your work ID, I think you will get a discount of some sort. Check it out. You can call them, but I don't have their phone number with me...I just know how to get there.
I also wanted to let you know that if any of the kids are going into engineering or science for college, there is a small scholarship that they can apply for (if they are going to school in MD) from the AOC. I'm on the B.O.D. and can send you more details. I'd love to see one of our kids get some extra money for books.
Wow Devi, thanks. I was counting last night and I think I have 7 graduating High School this year. I know Maddie is going for Forestry and Luke is on the fence with Forestry and Animal Science. I'll find out the rest. I'll look at Jessup and see what they have...thanks for the tip.
Coach Roger, great website on the program. Very impressive!!!
We will take a look around to see what we can find for the Youth Program.
Also, what fundraisers do you all have for the program? We did gun raffles that paid for most of our Youth Shooting each year(16-20 kids), we also asked kids to get a $100 sponsorship from a local business. We also did potluck lunch's at local shoots(kids parents brought food) and we charged $5 per. Raised a lot of money for the Youth program.
Hi Bud, thanks for the kind words regarding the website. Its is used as the primary communication tool for our program. Information that is posted on the site is automatically sent to email subscribers in addition to being posted to both Facebook and Twitter. I have found that the more I communicate to the team using these tools the more time we have for shooting at the range.
As for fundraiser, due to time constrains in my schedule I find it to be extremely difficult to organize and participate in anything more then I do now. It is more then a part time job to run a team this size. We have a fundraising committee but since receiving our 501(c)3 we have tried to concentrate on corporate and business sponsorship for our primary funding. Before someone asks these kids put in a lot of time in their communities volunteering at local sportsmen clubs and I would rather see them spending their time helping these clubs then trying to sell pretzels or pizzas only to raise $25 per kid. I like the $100 per shooter idea and I will pass that on to the committee.
Again thanks Bud and whatever you can find will be a huge help!
Thanks Rich, PM returned...sounds like a fantastic idea.
BAD...we can always use shell pouches (vests, not so much) I gave away our last loaner the other night..it was an oversight on my part as they should have been on my original wish list. I have made the correction.
