I would like to buy, low rib, 30" Beretta 302,303 or 390, .780 or .800 bore barrels with screw in chokes. Possibly Baker or Moneymaker in good shape. Jon

Your guess would be wrong. Decreaseed friction increases the velocity. I get about 45 FPS more speed from a cylinder bore choke in my .800 bore vs a full choke in a standard bore Remington 1100 barrel that is 30 inches long and 725 bore.

Depends on the load and the wad. Some wads do not seal well in the .800 bore guns or even the .780- bore guns. You can count on 25 to 35 FPS faster and some load combinations will give you 50FPS more.

The Mossberg Ultimag 3 1/2 inch pump shotgun patterns steel better then 1300 to 1600 dollar high end Beneli and Browning and Beretta guns.

Why? 12ga chamber with a 10ga barrel. The barrel is 780 and patterns steel better then all the rest for 1/4 the cost.Jeff

DarkHorse, I am not shooting 12ga shells thru my 8ga! I am shooting 8ga shells in it!!! For all the reasons stated is why I want a big bore (.780 - .800 bore) A 12ga barrel that has been cut off and a larger bore barrel tube welded to it. I think that you may need to read up on what people do to build these barrels! Stan Baker first built them in the early 80's. Moneymaker still build them. Jon

Decreaseed friction would also decrease pressure and that is why i would think less velocity-- i could be wrong but if you shoot 2 identical loads in a rifle only 1 with moley coated bullets 1 with reg bullet the load with the reg bullet will be faster because it will have higher press.I don't see why a shot gun would be any diff.

I would love to read up on these barrels and the thought process and theory behind an 8 ga. bore. That is what My books say the internal diameter of an 8ga should be… .800 inches. Just tell me where to go to do some research on this .800 bore.

If this is .800 bore is true, then why put a choke in a gun at all? I know someone makes a little short adapter so someone can fire a 20...even a 28 or .410 in a 12 ga. gun. I have seen skeet shooters use them. I’m not talking about the tube sets that Kolar or Briley sells to shooters but adapters about 2 ¾ inches long. It doesn’t seem to work out well for them, but someone makes them anyway.

I’m still nibbling at this bait, but it’s going to take a whole lot more for me to swallow the hook.

Smells like B.S. to me.

I have one of two factory prototype .800 barrels made by Krieghoff in 30" K-80 for the shot show. I bought it from Allems over twenty years ago. Dont believe it ? Then call Krieghoff , Allems ,Chris Maiest or Ernest Marlette.I sent it to Briley back then and had it screw choked. They made chokes from cyl to .90 . Shoots great but is finicky with some shells and wads. Jeff

Listen, I do not know why thw velocity increases? stan baker always said it was because of decreased friction?

I have chokes from cylinder bore thatjust protect the choke tube threads to 730 choke which is 70 thousandths choke.

The tight choke gives more velocity.

This is a well known and documented ballistic truth/fact.

take a choke tubed gun and shoot it over a Crony and you will see more speed with a tite choke then with a open choke.

As I said.. my baker big bore with ZERO choke goes about 35 FPS faster then a regular full choke trap barrel of the same length.

The cronograph consistently lies the above. The cronograph has it in for Big bore barrels.

My Baker big bore also provides the most large pellets in a 30 inch circle at 60 yards then any other 12ga barrel I have patterned.

You do not have to believe it but anybody who wants to bet 100 dollars a shot that factory STS ammo will register quicker out of my baker barell then a regular full choke barrel just step up to the plate.

I can not explain why it is so. Just know that it is. Jeff

I don't know all about velocity, recoil or any thing else but what got me interested in a big bore barrel for my trap gun was after a fun shoot last nov.you had to shoot 50 targets with your duck/goose gun. I am a poor shooter as my ata ave will show, but I broke 21-24 with a moss. 935.beat up my cheek but it sure broke birds.may have been the barrel may not.don't know.have not used it for trap since. the 935 has to many issues to deal with as far as making it into a trap gun.I have a big 50 on wen. may try it again then.
