i'm looking at buying a single barrel trap gun, i whould like some info as to which is the most reliable and softest to shoot, ljutic, alferman, mack one, these are what i like the look and sound of but as there are none of these guns here in ozz to try, and licening is hard some info from shooters who have owned some or all of these whould be a help, please bear in mind if it gos wrong im a long way away to get parts, i have shot and owned most makes and models of o/u shotguns in my long shooting career and enjoy k80s and early brownings the most, i shoot release triggers and compeate in AA in most disciplines including sporting, so please no silly info like ( get a 391 auto ) because ive already got one! thanks, jonnyd

Any MX Perazzi will fit that bill. And parts are plentiful and mostly you can fix the gun yourself. But Annual spring changes is all that is required as a rule.

Buy a MX2000/8. Buy it new and the gun will treat you right. Unsingles will seem to recoil less. So go that route if you want that. Or get a 32" MX2000 O/U. Tht will shoot soft. Buy a new gun.

Guns and perceived recoil are so subjective... I'm an owner and fan of both the low rib and HPAR 90T. And I can tell you they're built like a brick $hithouse... but the upside is the weight helps reduce felt recoil...

I never hear of or have seen one fail in the past 10-years... testament to their construction and at $2K +/- (low rib), a real value IMO...

Just My $0.02,

Jay

First off, if you have a "long shooting career", then you probably have as much (if not more) experience than most that will answer your post. Even if your career is in other disciplines, you should have a strong feel for what is best for you. All guns of Browning quality or better are reliable if taken care of. So, it comes down to which you shoot the best.

If you still own the K80, why not just put a single barrel on it?

The reason many people will give you the "silly" answer of a 391 auto is because many feel it is as soft a shooting gun as you will find (I don't think so, but that is my personal opinion and only you can decide if it is soft shooting for you). If you already own one, it will serve you quite well at any yardage in trap.

But, neither of my anwers are as fun as buying a new gun!

Good luck.

My suggestion would be a used (or new) Ljutic. If you are concerned about spare parts, you most likely won't need to stock many if you acquire a mono- gun. You will not be disappointed, and I'm certain will delight in the balance of this superb SBT gun; after getting your Ljutic, you might find yourself a promotor of the gun - yes, they are that special. Good luck in whatever road you choose....

391 with adjustbale moneymaker rib, Forend weight, adj. comb and a Gracoil?

Seems they wouldn't get much more soft shooting than that?

I agree with ColtM1911A1 on the Ljutic. I had a Kolar and loved it but the weight was to much for me. I purchased a Ljutic Pro 3 and it is great!!! The recoil is lite and the balance of the gun is great.

the most consistent trigger for a release that I have ever owned came with my Alfermann, I've had it for 5 years now and it is still the same, great gun, smokes targets and for the money is hard to beat. Jim Butler

The softest shooting will depend on the fit and weight of the gun. So, all of the SBTs will fit into that category.

The most reliable is hands down the Ljutic. Parts are readily available, but you won't ever need any. In 10,345 rounds I've never had a single problem. I had two FTFs, but they turned out to be the shells.

Both my release and pull triggers are the most consistent I've ever tested. This is not based on my "feelings", but on a trigger gauge. Both the pull and release are consistent +/-.1 pounds. The best feeling trigger I had was on my DT-10 and it fluctuated +/-.2 pounds.

Further, if you buy a new Ljutic, they will custom fit the stock. You can do this with a Perazzi also, but the leaf springs in a Perazzi are unreliable. The coil springs are not an issue.

Butler is right, the release trigger on the Alfermann is excellent. Set and release force never changes. The Alf is a little heavy (really helps recoil) but a lively pointing gun--Little weight up front. Overall a good value in my opinion..SMOKIT

thanks for all the input, i will think about dennis new guns, garys looks fantastic, you dont say if you use the release trigger gary? i now use a 1963 D5 browning 32" broad rib with 5lb pull 2 1/2lb release 35 and 42tho choke from 15 and 24 meter mark with a custom stock, and a 32" A1 browning for skeet and sporting sold all other o/u so i want a change, the reason there are no guns here (australia)to try is we shoot mostly double barrel and singles is realy a side event all our handicap is double barrel also so this is truly a fun thing to do and i like nice guns! so when i get to the grand one day i will be ready!!!( maybe ) jonnyd

I am partial to a Caesar Guerini Combo, you can get a great deal on a new one, you can try one at the Cardinal Center this week from Caesar Guerini or Jaquas to name a few, The Impact "T" w/ 30-32-34" inch O/U bbls and an Un-single that will shoot up to 120% high and the O/U will shoot up to 90/10, and has a factory release trigger available.

Or you can spend triple that amount and get a Baser or K-80.

If you're down under as it appears you are, I would think brands you would be looking at are the one's availble internationally, such as Guerini, Blaser, Perazzi, Beretta, Browning, Krieghoff. All of these companies make single barrel trap guns for the U.S. market as I'm sure you know; but they also sell products configured for differnt discplines such as skeet, sporting clays bunker etc. into most international markets. The only difference in these products are the stock and barrel configirations, the recievers are essentially the same and the parts will enter-change from one reciever to the other.. Outside of ejectors most failures have something to do with the receiver, springs, hammers etc..

I would think any or all of these brands are availble to you now with good regional parts availability? Based on more regional parts and service, I would choose one of those brands. If that's not an issue, then by all means step right up to an Infinity, Bowen or Ljutic, all great guns.

If recoil is you concern then a recoil reducing stock like the PFS or soft touch may be a better way to make an investment?

Is your Browning A 1 a break open or a semi automatic. I thought pumps and autos were outlawed in Aussie land.

Silver Seitz would be my first choice. I have to agree with Dr.Longshot. The Caesar Guerini in a top single or unsingle would work just fine. Great customer service also.

The man lives on the far side of the world and has made it clear he does not want an unsingle or top single. He will likely hop into his private jet and parachute into the Cardinal Center this week.

Unless you have very deep pockets, look for a Ljutic.

Johnny, Sorry to have overstepped my bounds as I have not owned a Blaser, Krieghoff or Ljutic, although I've shot them all and could not find one that loved me, so I didn't love them. The closest I've come to owning a Krieghoff was Remington's model 32 the forerunner of Krieghoff's 32/K80, it doubled and no one could fix it, so down the road it went. I owned or still own all the other brands including a number of Perazzi's, which you seem to have no taste for.

I've also shot Ljutic's and all the Ljutic renditions, Coles, Alfermans, Bowens Mach one/Infinity. Other than Ljutic,Infinity impressed me most. I would own a Ljutic if they were lighter. But as you stated, shooting but not owning is not valid when asking opinions, you have to sleep with them for more than a night so to speak to know if they're really a keeper.

You mighr repost your inquiry listing specific brands and it may keep all the mouths like me at bay.

I'm butting out................
