They are hoping for a 11:00 EST liftoff, but winds may delay or abort it. The video is working now, but it's just flight prep.

If this jump takes place, he will break the sound barrier.

That boy is crazy.

You got that right. I spent eight years in Lubbock, the only time it was calm was when the wind direction was changing.

On it's way, it may take two hours to rise all the way. Also on Discovery Channel.

All that wasted money and did not beat the 1960 free fall time record. Jeff

I don't know if he broke the sound barrier but I hope he did. He still did good even though he didn't get the free fall record.

It's hard to break both the speed record and longest free-fall record at the same time. The faster you go, the less time of free-fall.

Thank you. LOL

Man when he was tumbling at first I was so scared he was not going to be able to stop it because he might pass out before he got to the thicker air. Once he stopped tumbling everything seemed to work as well as could possibly be hoped for.

wireguy,

They said there was an automatic chute that would deploy and stop the spin if he entered into a spin which he could not control or pull out of. I was wondering myself. Just like that he stopped spinning and looked well in control.

Baumgartner reached a top speed of 833.9 mph, a new record for a skydiver. That also means he successfully broke the sound barrier, reaching Mach 1.24.

As for th spinning that said it would happen for about 30 seconds or so. It was about 45. I think he was 20 off the free fall record. At the speed he had it would have been close. He did a good job.
