My barrell has about 0.004" play both side to side to side and up and down.

I have checked the top lever dog and it seems to be ok. The top lever is still to the right and the locking bolt extends about 0.010" greater than the depth of the locking lug.

Even if I hold the lever hard left there is still movement.

I temporally placed a 0.004" shim on the locking lug and the play is gone and the gun is tight.

Can the locking lug be welded up or what other options may I have?

Charlie

If the locking bolt has bottomed out in the barrel lug and it's still loose the bolt can be tig "welded up."

I had the same problem. Doug Braker made it just like new for a reasonable price. Ben

The lug on the barrel and forearm could have lots of wearing.

I just had my BT-99 done by Ron Fisher, Odessa, FL. Ron installed a NEW BROWNING locking bolt, repaired the ejector, cleaned and lubed the trigger assembly all for less than it would have cost just to have others weld up an old locking bolt.

Google Ron Fisher and you will find contact info. Marc

Send it to Dean at Skeet's, He's done BT's for me in the past, give him a call at 918/456-4749. Like you, I live in SoCal, it's no big deal to send Dean your gun. Bolsa Gunsmithing can do it but their turnaround may be long as they are normally slamed.

Fixed! I took it over to Bolsa Gunsmithing on July 12th. Six days later on the morning of July 16th they called and told me it was ready.

I am very pleased with the service and that the gun fits like new. The lever is about 1/8" to the right.

Thanks to all of you who offered advice.

Bolsa welded up the locking lug area and re-ground the fit.

No new parts were required.
