a french press is the way to make the best coffee. grind your own beans. unbelievable!

Get one that has the cone-type rather than the flat-type of coffee holder...I have a Braun which works well...also, get one that has an insulated-type of coffee pot or carafe so that the coffee stays hot, but doesn't keep cooking and become bitter.

An important factor with making brewed coffee is to dump the filter and grounds as soon as it's done brewing. Otherwise certain oils and bitters will continue to drip into the pot, negatively affecting the flavor.

toolguy The local Farm Store has them on sale for $76.00 . Bunn makes three or four home coffee makers and all alittle different . The one we buy (two) is the 3 Min Coffee Maker and we like it alot . As for the french press I drink coffee because I like it but it,s not a hobby lol

I bought a Bunn Coffee maker and it makes hot coffee in three minutes or less. It is a 10 cup coffee maker and so far the best coffee maker i have ever owned. Got it from Newegg.com

I bought a stainless thermal carafe drip coffee maker from Starbucks a few years ago. If you preheat the thermal carafe the coffee is very hot and stays warm for quite a while. Link above. Bill Malcolm

I got a press in September after tasting some outstanding coffee on a kayak trip. The press takes coffee to a whole new level of flavor...just make sure you use good Arabica beans...I prefer a espresso roast (Costco 3 lbs for $12.). Another good cup on the road is cafe Americana style...two shots of espresso into 6 oz. of hot water...delicious. I much prefer the "old school" espresso machines that have a pull handle and not the automated ones that Starbucks and others use. And I like 7 1/2's in winter!

dave-320C is right on. The French coffe press is the bomb. Best damned coffe I ever made or tasted and it is pretty quick and easy. You can grind your own but I quit that. I buy it at the grocery and grind it there before leaving, then keep it in a mason jar to stay fresh. The press is about $30. If you buy one you will never go back to an electric. trust me!! I have two, one real small one for traveling ( when traveling I use a Microwave), at home I boil the water in a pan. The nice thing is I make hot tea with it also ( which I drink a lot of) Fred Myers has them for a good $$

I purchased a Keurig a few weeks ago and for my taste it makes the best cup of coffee I have ever had from a home brewing system. A little expensive at about fourty cents per cup but I don't waste coffee by throwing away 1/2 a pot or letting it go bad on the warmer. If you want only one or two cups a day then my vote is for Keurig.

We have a Cuisinart with the stainless pot. We use the option of whole beans, it grinds then brews in under 10 minutes, very fresh.... Also like the stainless pot, it only heats up while brewing, but keeps the coffe warm for several hours, but does not continue to 'cook' the coffee. Unlike those separate appliances that grinds whole beans, this is very easy to clean...

I have had them all. The best was the Cory, DR vacuum type with gass upper.

You put the coffee in the top and the water in the bottom. The water boiled and went up, you cooked as long as you wanted, and after removing heat the coffee went to the lower part, sucked down by vacuum. There was a filter rod mad of glass with a stippled surface, you can see it in the picture.

I like the pod type coffee makers they have now, for a quick cup they can't be beat.

But I use my Goodwill 2 dollar one (brand new with an advertising logo, must have been a door prize) most of the time.
