If you look at the box, It states 24 grams shot. It takes 28 grams to make an ounce. These loads are slightly less than 7/8 ounce. They would be legal trap loads as they are about the same load as an international load. Watch out for the 20 gauge loads in the same shell. It only has 22 grams of shot,

Don

Shootnclays ... yep, thats them. Recently seen for $3.99 a box or $39.90 a flat. If I could still find that load in a shell for less than $35 a flat I would stock up enough to last me a long long time. Hopefully there will be some sales come dove season.

"I have seen some Federal game loads out there as well with the same fps and shot load as Remingtons and for a few cents less ... I wonder if they are worth a try?"

Remington Game loads, Winchester Universal, Federal Target/Game; all the usual stuff at WalMart, I'd be surprised if you could tell any difference in your scores. At the same price, I'll shoot Rem because the shot is a little better quality, but I think they'll all break all the targets if I can do my part.

It really doesnt make sense ... well yes it does but it kind of doesn't ... that a larger dram load of powder with a lighter load of shot will have less felt/perceived recoil than a lighter dram load of powder with a larger load of shot.

The Remington Game Loads mentioned above are a great bang for the buck shell. I wish I had shot them instead of Top Guns for most of this year but hey ... what did I know ... Top Guns were the same price at that time.

I have seen some Federal game loads out there as well with the same fps and shot load as Remingtons and for a few cents less ... I wonder if they are worth a try?

$4.14/ bx is still cheap considering the local Wally's is 1/2 a mile down the road from work. Buying shells any "cheaper" means driving a considerable distance for me, so it ain't worth it anyway - JoeBerg

Yep ... them #8's are some killer loads. It did upset me though when Wally World raised the prices from $3.94 to $4.14 a box just recently on them.

Michael ... yes that is a pretty much standard international trap load and if they will work on a thicker targets, faster flying targest and at targets that fly at wider variants of elevation and angles from the house those same shells should be fantactiscly perfect for ATA at any yardage.

Hmmm, doesn't Kaye shoot Nitro 27s for Handicap? So, he must not be too worried about heavier loads putting out a bad pattern, and he must feel some need for a faster load at long yardage.

As for 1350 fps 7/8 oz loads patterning poorly, isn't that all they shoot for international trap, in guns choked full and fuller?

Michael

100 classic if Your shells are the "NEW" Super Speeds, at 1 oz.(1350FPS) there are indeed ilegal under current rules. The problem uis Wally World markets TWO DIFFERENT Super Speeds. The one pictured by weagle shows the OTHER Super Speed shells. Those are 24 grams( 7/8 oz,) THese ArE Legal to use at 1350 FPS. You have to be VERY careful not to confuse the two. Both LOOK similar and BOTH are at 1350 FPS, but one is ILLEGAL at 1 oz. when the other is LEGAL at 7/8 oz. I saw a guy trying to use the 1 oz. loads and they told him before the shoot he couldn't.

I've bought them for several years. They are sharp kickers. The normal price around here is $3.90/ box, but they occasionally put them on sale for $3.25.

"The tapered or universal?"

I haven't taken any of the Super Speed apart, but they look just like Winchester Universal from the outside. I expect they are the same.

Sounds like the recent release than of the Remington UMC shells ... I might have to check out Wally World on the way home to check them out but for the life of me I have never seen them at any of the local stores in the past.

Super Speed is an old, old Winchester/Western name. I carry my shells in an ancient Super Speed wooden box from the 1950s. Winchester now uses this name for their lowest priced shells, and our local WalMart sometimes has some of them on the shelf.

If you are worried, just rebox them and shoot them. Put them in AA boxes. No one will even pay attention. When's the last time you had anyone check the speed of your shells at a registered shoot? Even if they do, most cheap shells chrono slower than advertised. 25fps isn't enough to worry about.

I just bought a flat of these at Wal-Mart for $35.80. When I got home I looked at the ATA rule book and found out that these shells are 25 ft/sec faster then the limit. These are 1 oz at 1350 ft/sec. Guess I can use them for non-registered shoots and practice.
