Okay, I just turned 70 last month, but unless I asked to get reclassified, I will stay a veteran until next trapshooting year which is sometime after the next Grand.

My question is........Is it better to stay a veteran for the whole year or request being put in the senior veteran category now?

What are the pro's and con's?

Thank You!

Hauxfan!

All depends if you think you can beat the 'old guys', stay a Vet!

If not, time to shoot against us 'old geezers'!

I don't have time to look it up, but I think you can declare Senior Vet anytime during the shooting year, even after the year starts. I hit the big 70 this month and will declare for the next shoot.

However, once you declare you can't un-declare.

You said you turned 70 last month that would be October and the 2009 Target Year started Nov 1st 2008. I think that when you get your 2009 Average card in the mail it will show Senior Vet because of your DOB with no option for staying a Vet.

Jevoliva........Penn State had the week off last week, so I'm thinking we will be pretty beat up by the time we play you guys, so you should be giving us points.

Well, heck, maybe I am a sr. vet. Oh well, I'm still not as old as Shootlow.......lol lol

Hauxfan I hate to be a wet blanket but you said you turned 70 last month that was last year. This is the new target year. I posted the rules that pertain you had better try to figure it out.

5. A shooter who is 70 years or older will be designated as a Sr. Veteran.

6. Age based categories are established on the birthday of the shooter. For purposes of determining age category for HOA and HAA awards the category declared by the participant on the first day he/she shoots shall be used.

7. Shooters who become eligible for new age based categories during the target year may elect to continue to compete in the previous category for the remainder of that target year. (For example a shooter reaching age 70 may elect to continue to shoot as a Veteran for the remainder of the current target year.) However, once a shooter has elected to move to the new category that decision is irrevocable and he/she may not again declare eligibility for the previous category. Junior shooters reaching the age of 18 may continue to declare Junior category for the remainder of the current target year. (Note: Shooters will become eligible for new age based categories on September 1, 2008 for the 2009 target year)

Gotbass, now that was a low blow. Shootlow looks at least a year older than Father Time...........lol

Thanks Bob, what with the changing end of year dates, I wasn't quite sure. But I am now.

A couple of things about growing old.

You have to be tough, as it isn't for wimps.........And............it does beat the alternative.........lol
