I understan what Brad Dysinger and the OSTA's decision on the add'l trophies, just look at this there were 58 Grand American Singles given to Champions +

There were 148 more trophies given to the new ATA Made up Winners.

There were a total of 206 trophies given + or - I may not have counted exactly, but that is close.

So why not just give every body a trophy.

And this was just the Singles Championship on Wednesday, now how much money did they cost the ATA, How much money would it hhave cost the OSTA and any other State Shoot to offer those extra trophies?

This is the major reason the OSTA refused to offer those awards.

You have to take all of the events into consideration. I am proud of the OSTA's decision.

Longs?t running down the ATA again and which he does't even shoot. Longsh?t, How much do Flashlights cost? Isn't that what Ohio gave out a couple of years ago?

Go back to your games and leave the ATA alone if you are not going to shoot in it!

Maybe it's just me but, the medallion awards are not the equivalent of a trophy. I believe it was a low cost way of giving more people a chance to bring something home from the biggest shoot they will attend in any year, for many, in their lives. Most of what is pasted above and counted by LS up top is a result of these Medallion Awards.

Maybe I'm wrong about it; if they disappeared I don't think it would be any big deal. What's wrong with it as long as it doesn't cost a material amount? They aren't program type trophies.

The world of trapshooting is a very interesting place. I suspect most of the shooters (how many total??)went because they love to shoot and wanted to compete. Money, prizes, awards, trinkets for the most part are just the frosting on the cake. The experience and memories will last longer than anything else and the recognition of shooting ability by your peers is the award with the most meaning for all but the most jaded competitors. I have to guess the ATA decided what they were going to award... I also am sure that those that competed did so for pure enjoyment more than the expectation of money, medals and glory. I read everyones opinions and accept them for what they are... personal opinions.... I am fairly sure that the ATA or any other organization puts on a show they believe the majority of the shooters want. If that proves to not be the case I am pretty sure they will go a different direction....... Larry

I agree with Sportshot; I hope to someday make it to the Grand. If I was fortunate enough to win ANYTHING I would treasure it. And if a $3 medallion attracts more shooters to our premiere event more power to the ATA. John

Sorry Jim, I don't know Brad from Adam except for an occasional "hi". I am capable of looking up his Trapshooting record and his ability speaks for itself. When the ATA creates policies that feed the big boys and hands the peasants a few crumbs in the form of trinkets, I tend to agree with his logic. If some would believe more belt buckles or pewter plates is a formula for success they might give Skeet a good look!!

oleolliedawg,

Short of adding say, $2 million to the payouts, what pray tell, do you propose instead of belt buckles, plates, etc. Last time I checked, those are most of us call >trophies< and most would be damn glad to win one at The Grand or most any other big shoot. I know I would.

Tim

P.S. The Grand left Ohio and WILL NOT be back there, FYI.

x2 fan, I don't suppose you remember when Grand American Handicap event wins were worth over $30,000 in option money alone. Tha ATA didn't have to cook up schemes to increase attendance when shooters were willing to pony up dollars to participate. Few trophies (trinkets) were awarded yet attendance more than doubled todays' meager participation!!

No, of course I don't as I have only been in the ATA since '02. That being said, don't you think the times we live in have divided the priorities a bit? Economy ain't what it used to be, in case you haven't noticed! I would suggest that that has more to do the (lack of) money that you have seen than anything else. It certainly isn't because The Grand has moved from Ohio.

Tim, I'll betcha Cardinal Center will have a great turnout regardless of the economy. Our local casino has seen revenue growth exceeding expectations every year since opening!!

X2 fan, how can you be certain that the move from Ohio isn't the reason?

That fact is that when the ATA moved to Illinois it moved away from its shooter base. Pa and Ohio have the most ATA members, both states have nice multi trap clubs for their large shoots.

The state of Illinois only sends about half as many shooters to Sparta as Ohio did to Vandalia.

None of the states around Illinois has picked up the numbers that Pa used to send to Vandalia.

I,m sure that the move to Sparta "is" the cause and can't be fixed, not with tokens for everyone who signs up, not with yards and yards off each year, not with gobs of others money.

The fate of the ATA was cast about the time you joined. The members who voted said don't go to Sparta, Illinois is to anti gun. The BOD knew better and went with the attitude of build it an they will come.

It has been long enough now to prove who was right. I understand your wanting it "the ATA's health" to be better, it's not, the ATA is dying.

When you stated in 02 there was something like 95 million ATA targets shot each year, this year it will probably be down to around 50 million.

Brad has not bad mouthed the ATA as such, only in their actions and in their in-actions.

Let's see if the shoot at Cardinal this week is up or down by the percentages of the grand being down.

Jim Brown you must give yourself ENEMAS as it is all over you, or is someone else administering them.

I have never heard it put that way but it was self explanatory, when I go to a shoot and I smell that horrible odor you must be close.

I just had to say it. HaHaHa PPPPEeeeeeeUUUuuu. Pepe LePew must be close.

Gary Bryant Dr longwind. Jerry Bryant Dr loudwind. Jerry if you want a challenge match why don't you go to your state association and see if they won't set up a match for you.

The grudge match was a lot of enjoyment and entertainment and it raised some money for charity. Both contestants graciously agreed to participate, but I don't believe that either Gary or Don begged to be part of this event. 2013 a new year and probably a different type of fund raiser.

Well let's put this into another prospective:

THE GRAND IS DOWN DUE TO THE FANTASTIC SHOOTING VENUES BEING PUT ON HERE IN OHIO AT THE CARDINAL CENTER.

CLOSE TO FREEWAYS , CLOSE TO LODGING, CLOSE TO EVERY IMAGINATION OF FOOD, WHETHER IT'S ITILIAN, MEXICAN,CHINESE, FRENCH, GERMAN OR PERUVIAN

PLUS THE SHADE CAMPING AREAS, SHADE AT EVERY STARTING POINT AND COLD WATER.

GRASS IS CUT AND TRIMMED BY A GREAT STAFF.

Look at RJ Stuart Demographics:

Illinois 20% 652 shooters

Missouri 6.26% 204 Wisconsin 5.28% 172

Indiana 5.25% 171

Ohio 5.06% 165

Kentucky 4.69% 153

Pennsylvania 4.26% 137

Tennessee 4.17% 136

Iowa 3.19% 104

Ohio was 5th in shooters. Except for Missouri, it appears we are lacking shooters west of the Mississippi.

Everyone wonders about attendance at the Grand. It's obvious the shooters West of the Misssissippi aren't making up for the shooters East of the Mississippi that aren't or can't attend.

We sent our money to Ohio for 100 years I would hope it has developed some shooters in the area. Let's try to develop some in another area for the next 100 years and then see where the shooters are.
