Sparta, IL (KSDK) - One person was injured and several tents knocked over after high winds swept through a shooting and recreational complex.
The storm swept through around 4:30 Thursday afternoon and this is what it left behind: A ribeye and kabob stand that's set up for a shooting tournament was knocked over, along with other vendor tents.
There are rows of campers and vendors at the World Shooting and Recreational Complex for a big event called the Grand American Championship. It started earlierThe mayor of Sparta estimates about ten thousand people are attending the event and there are about 1,800campers here. Luckily, all those people where not here when the winds came through.
The person who was injured was under one of the tents that collapsed. That person was taken to the hospital and has since been released.
Cynthia Reeder runs the ribeye stand, but witnessed the storm not far away.
"It just came in and blew. When we were in town limbs were flying and trees were breaking and it was windy, it was like 65 mile per hour wind. That's what it felt like so, it was bad," said Reeder.
Reeder thinks she can have her stand up and running again by Friday and by the big festivities, trap shooting competitions out there on Saturday. this month and the big finale is this Saturday.
