Has anyone purchased and/or shot the new FABARM XLR 5? I'm looking for a soft-shooting trap gun for my daughter and a semi designed for trap would seem to be a good choice. My K-80 fits her well, but it's just too heavy. I did read the Butler thread and my best of luck to the company, but I'm not in a position to spend $7500 on a custom ordered semi-auto.

My girlfriend and I shot the XLR 5 in June at our state shoot. Both of us agreed it was the softest shooting gun either of us have shot. I owned and shot a Beretta 390 auto with a Soft Touch stock that was close, but heavier and didn't have the benefit of an adjustable rib and certainly didn't move as well to the target as the Fabarms. I was so impressed with this gun, I will own one by fall.

I own a Winchester Super X3, by far the softest shooting gun ive ever shot. I has an adjustable comb and 5 factory chokes included. New at scheels I paid $1399 plus tax. I also put a mercury suppressor in the mag tube as well. I highly recommend this gun.

I have a Beretta 391 with a Soft Touch adjustable recoil absorbing stock and a Moneymaker adjustable high rib barrel that has to be the softest shooting semi that I have ever shot. More so with 7/8 oz loads. Something you might want to consider for your daughter. FWIW. JM

The Fabarm is a big, heavy gun, and the pistol grip to trigger distance is not suitable for a small hand. Unless your daughter is a very big girl, it's not the gun for her. Look at the Beretta A-400parallel target. Light and soft shooting. Better choice.

You guys are totally missing the point...the gun is "for his daughter..." :)

I was thinking about the same thing for my 4 year old son.

Another option for a soft shooting semi is a Remington 1100 20 gauge standard (12 gauge size receiver) with a recoil absorbing synthetic stock like the one the Remington 1100 competition comes with. This option might be viable if you do not reload. JM

Beretta AL391 RL Parallel Target. This gun can be used with ALL the clay games and work perfectly. Would be a good fit and shimable for a proper fit. Comb can also be cut if necessary.

I bought the standard length gold version new because I wanted an all around soft shooting semi and I love it. It is not my main trap or sporting/skeet gun but it gets shot alot. No regrets. Price didn't break the bank either. Shop around some for a good price, I pulled off the Gold PT 32" for just a hair over the std. x-tra grain version.

I find it hard to believe the Fabarm is head over heels that much better of a gun than the Beretta versions. But, I could be wrong.

Today went and fondled one, it's a lefty, really comes to point easy, about two lb's lighter than my Kolar, fit and finish are very good. Not to sure about the oil finish on the wood, almost looks and feels unfinished. Now if I could only sell my Ljutic she'd be mine.

I got a call fro Caesar Guerini yesterday afternoon telling me that Cole Gunsmithing will be doing all their releases and the will have the parts made to do the installation in SEPTEMBER that is next month.

They told me there has been a lot of requests for their release but that Cole did such a good job that they were going to do all the release triggers on the FABARMS XLR5.

That was Caesar Guerini's decision that they gave me personally 8/15/2012

I called CG and asked when they were going to have the factory release triggers available and this was their answer.

This was from the Mfgrs Caesar Guerini USA

Looked at one yesterday at the FITASC event at the North Brook, IL Sportsman's Club and could see that the trigger has a set screw in it so you can slide it forwards and backwards. You'd have to slide it all the way back and see if it fits the small hand you have in mind.

I have very small hands and shot a practice round with the XLR5 at our state shoot and have no complaints reaching the trigger, so it may have been set back. The two automatics I owned when trying the Fararms were a Beretta 390 with composite Soft Touch stock and a 391 Urika with a factory in butt recoil reducer. The 390 is the heavier of the two and was the softest shooter, but the 390 was not as soft a shooter for me as the Fabarms. I had been shooting a Perazzi single barrel at the state when I tried XLR5 and didn't find weight to be an issue. In fact, I felt the gun moved and pointed extremely well. It's just a matter of time before one lands in my safe.

told the price is 260 dollars

So...with respect to trap shooting, how do those of you who have shot the XLR5 feel about where the ejected shells land? I've read claims that they ejected down and to the front and wouldn't be much of a problem for trap shooters. What say you?

The shells on the gun I shot did eject the empties forward and to the right. Standing on the sixteen yardline, it dropped the shells in front of and almost to the next station. It may bother some shooters when hulls are landing off to their left front, but not me. The problem disappears as you move away from the sixteen and the distance between stations widens. At no time would you be bouncing empties off an adjacent shooter or his gun as most automatics presently do.

I give this gun high marks, but like everything its subjective. If you get a chance shoot one, it may be the one for you or it may not.

I bought one of the first ones Indiana Gun club got in and love it. The demos guerini had at grand had shell catchers and release triggers on some of them. I noticed them when talking to the rep. Im a beretta semi auto guy and like this gun over the 390 and 303 ive had. Curt

I shot the Cole release in the demo from CG at the Grand. 5 shots and walked off the practice trap. Ssslllooowww. Couldn't shoot it. CG said they have asked Cole to speed them up, numerous complaints. Gun shot soft with caps shells though.

As far as I know the Fabarm shell catcher is still being developed. I understand the Birchwood Casey wire one will work, I'm using a rubber band right now.

John R,

That is also my understanding from sending a e-mail to FabArms. They are still in the development stage of the shell catcher. I have never tried the rubber band but have heard of people using them. How do they work.

MarkLT, they work ok, use a thick one like you get on vegetables at the grocery store,,put it around the receiver over the ejection port, you will have to move it forward or back to see what works for you. Lot of the time you have to dig the fired shell out which is a slight pain.

Most of the time I'm just letting them fly, they seem for the most part to go forward to the right and not hitting the shooter to my right.

I have a Birchwood Casey single shell catcher on my current semi-auto. It works great, but...it's only good for one shell. What about doubles?

I'm quite interested in the XLR5, but I can't afford lots of different guns. Anything I buy would have to be able to shoot multiple games. The only shell catcher I know of that claims to work for two shells is the multicatch (multicatch.com), but it seems to be quite tuned to each particular gun, and I doubt they'll be making one for the XLR5 soon.

So, it looks like I either would have to improvise with the multicatch or just go ahead with something like the Prevail Trap.

Now this is just my opinion. A junior Sporting shooter I know had a Fabarm ELOS O/U, nice gun and he was shooting it well for almost one year. The Kid can shoot. The lug that the forend clips into broke in two and off the barrel you could see half of it was never silver soldered. We live in Canada, along way from the dealer, Long story goes it needs to be returned to Italy so dealer takes it in trade plus lots of cash on one of the new Fabarm sporting guns STL COMPETITION Beautiful gun! But less then a month in the ejectors quit then the gun won't fire the hammer pin is broken or as-cue. So he is waiting for parts. This is probably jobbed out parts that have questionable metallurgy and may well be resolved satisfactorily. I would wait a while before I laid out my target shooting cash. This is just my opinion but then I bought a Ford Fairmont for my wife in 1978 it had 18 recalls and my Cynergy shotgun had to go back to the factory for a recall. By the way I think the XLR 5 VELOCITY looks like 10 extra targets on anybodys score sheet. Enjoy EveryDay Jan

The new XLR5 is a tremendous gun; however, the case is a monster to carry and put in my vehicle. Has anyone had any luck finding an adequate case that is not so big and cumbersome?

It's mentioned here the the Velocity ejects the shells forward and to the right, so they won't hit the shooter next to you. Is there a way to shoot a hard right angle without actually moving the gun in that direction?
