I'm hoping to ease my comeback from shoulder surgery via a recoil reducer.
Has anybody used both the GraCoil and the R.A.D. 1A? If so, what's your opinion on the comparison? I like simplicity of the GraCoil but the hydraulic action and pad adjustability features of the R.A.D 1A only costs $75 more.

Gary, I have a RAD on my K-80 and a Gracoil on my Krieghoff model 32 and to tell you the truth other than the Rad being a little heavier they both work very well. If I were in your shoes it wouldn't matter which one I got. Mike.
You might want to try 1 oz. loads as well.
Even softer shooting.
Regards....Gerald
I have had both,the gracoil is my choice because of the weight difference.loyd
I doubt if you will notice the difference between the 2.

I find the RAD to have more and easier adjustment, and to be quieter. I cant the pad alot, and the gracoil stationary adjuster plate scrapes on my face while mounting, but this could be remedied with metal removal. The RAD LOP adjuster could use more secure anchoring, if using heavy loads. I prefer the RAD, hands down. JMHO.
GraCoil or S.P.S unit it will always be available Rad could be harder to find parts for even if it is a slightly nicer unit.

Thanks everybody for the posts and PMs. Keep 'em coming, especially info on specific mechanical function and failures.

Have a RAD on my K-80 and my father has a Gracoil on his Guerini. Shooting the same load the RAD seems a fuzz softer.
The pad will have an impact also. I prefer a Gooey pad with the RAD, he prefers a Kickeze with his Gracoil.
I am presently shooting a KS-5 Spl with a Wenig Stock and a recently added RAD. The weight of the RAD significantly changed the balance for me (I use a 15" LOP). I might end up getting used to it, but I can tell you I really notice it.

GW, from what part of the Country do you hail? Mike.
larrystrollo,
I would suggest a 4 to 7 oz. barrel weight, added, about 1-2 inches in front of your foreend.
scooterbum;
I may try that. It's going to top this baby over 10lbs though...
