Leo Harrison once told me he likes a top single trap gun. The closer the barrel is to the eye the better. I guess he would know being one of the top shooters in the country.

I think Leo knows what works best for him. Harlan uses a bottom single high rib very well, don't you think? Point of the whole thing is find what works best for you not what everyone else likes or uses.

I like them all but I like the rib elevated as I had a top single standard rib Beretta that although it was a wonderful shooter for me...I had terrible trouble with heat shimmer/mirage' when the barrel got scorching hot on those summer dog days..If I wasn't shooting my BT99 Plus/or Citori Plus bottom barrel for singles then my pref would most likely be to go back to the K80 unsingle because it was more comfortable than the couple of Perazzis I had gone through..Ljutics are nice too but prefer top lever locking to the button on the trigger guard...I would like to try a Guerrini sometime though

I have a BT99 Grade III that I purchased used about 4 weeks ago I have shot it about 5 times, 100 targets each time from the 16 yard line lowest score was 96, highest was 99 according to ATA I am a "B" class shooter. Since Jan. I have shot in 6 ATA events with my XT Trap, I tied for first once and won the other 6 outright. The moral here is one does not need a Kolar, or Silver Seitz, or K-Gun, or whatever 10K plus gun to shoot top scores. I, do however admit I would like to own one of those but I will stick with my Brownings. Woody Sullivan

I agree with Leo, as long as the rib is not so low that I can see heat waves from a hot barrel.

Bought my Ljutic in 1983 after a "test drive" where I ran 75 straight singles with it. Still my go to gun. I just made it "perty" after restocking it in 1992.

For style grace and symmetry I prefer a true single barrel gun for looks and balance. I have combos with singles that I shoot as well but just like the pure singles better.

ReconDoc - What you are saying about not needing a high dollar trap gun is true as is the qualifier that you would like to own one.

I have been shooting 682x Berettas for the last 15 years or so but recently had the opportunity to upgrade to a Kolar. There wasn't a thing wrong with the way my 682 was shooting but I really do like the Kolar - it is just plain nice. Even if the Kolar doesn't get me an extra bird I will still like it just because it is a really nice gun that is a pleasure to shoot. I think that is how it is for a lot of guys that work their way up to a higher end gun - they just like nice stuff and are in effect celebrating their life.

Also given that I'm not getting any younger and don't want my wife to have to dispose of things she doesn't know or care much about I've sold most of my hodge-podge collection also. Ross Puls

I'd love to have a K-gun. It's not on the books for me. I shoot Brownings and love them. If I shot ONLY trap (skeet, sporting) at a very high competative level I would own one. It would be justifiabe. I shoot all the games and hunt just for the love of it and the enjoyment of getting out and being out. I've never left a shoot envious of what another guy was shooting.

I'm not 100% sure of this but I willing to bet any pro or high level (class) shooter would tell a new or casual shooter to spent his money on a few good lessons and shells/targets before purchasing that high dollar gun.

SHOT 'M ALL...short and TALL

First was a BT-99 and they still kick the snot out of ya

Same for the Winchester 101

TM1...probably the best SBT ever made

IAB...one of the most underated guns I never sold (yup still own two)

90-T...sold more of them than I ever shot

Ljutic...remarkable design...kind of clumsy but they do shoot

Krieghoff best for Skeet or Doubles

Rottweil 72 AAT...best bang for the buck if you find a nice one

I shoot a bunch of them. Mostly 4e for singles and a 90t for caps. Paid $1695. for the 4e and $1400. for the 90t. Shot my first 100 straight with the 4e and made it to the 27 yard line with the 90t. Point is I could buy a more expensive gun but why?

At our state shoot I loaned the 90t to a junior shooter so I shot my Ithaca dollar grade for caps. Now let me tell ya the last ten in each event was painful. That gun will kick the snot out of you. But it sure was fun!

At the club I shoot all my old sbt's including Baker, Parker, Ithaca, LC Smith, Iver Johnson, And Charles Daly. Have also been known to shoot a bt99 and a bt100. Have several Ithaca Flues guns built before 1920, every time I take one to the line I wish they could talk. Who shot them before and what did they do with them? Bill

I have a great BT-99 Plus I shot for a while, but have grown attached to my Guerini unsingle trap wit the high rib. That being said, I shot the BT the other day and hit the same or more than my usual with the CG. The CG is just prettier and loves me more:)

Since we only go around once on this big rock...I'm glad we all have a favorite or 3 that floats our boats. I'm going to shoot all of them I can while I can since I'm not sold on the 72 virgins idea waiting at the end of the rainbow...if thats really the case .. them gals would probably do me in..again..twice in one day would be a real bummer

Currently have two SBT and one combo. 90T and Ljutic Mono, both are built to last a lifetime. Both are set up for a left handed shooter. 90T has a .27 choke, Ljutic has a .35. Ljutic has one of the nicest triggers I've had on a trap gun, chrisp and quick. My third SBT is my Kolar top single, I'd put it right there with the other two for quality of build. It's my goto gun. Nothing wrong with SBT, see a lot of them on the line.
