Hello, I've been a registered trap shooter for a couple years and have seen a variety of different makes and models of guns. I recently graduated hi school and got a decent job and currently live with my parents. No house/apartment means do bills so I bought a silver seitz and I must say, it is a very nice peice of equipment. I always liked the looks of the kolar trap guns and some day I will own my own.

If you would like, leave a post of what gun you shoot or what your favorite trap gun is or mabey both. Thank you and good luck shooting to all.

Zack

I shoot a Remington 870 TB, but my all time favorites are a pre 64 model 12 trap gun, and an old style BT99 built prior to 1976. Steve Balistreri

Get one that fits and stick with it. It's not the arrow, it's the Indian.

Unlike golf, you cannot buy your game with superior equipment in trap.

I love my Kolar but I also liked my 3200s very much. I still have several of them, each tricked out differently.. Like Steve, I found that the old style BT-99s were easy to shoot well - for me at least.

I've owned so many I forget . Just got back from Yakima having a custom Ljutic built. I liked most of them, but Ljutic fits me best. I am left handed. Krieghoff, Perazzi, Kolar, Remington, Beretta are all fine guns. Find one that fits or have a custom stock built and you will be satisfied with your choice. Some of the factory stocks might fit you. Ed Ward gave the best advice, and I'll expand. When you can see your way clear to do it, have a gun custom fitted, one that can be used for singles, caps & doubles. At your age, things will change in the years to come; but right now, the Kolar combo, with Jeff Mainland's fitting sessions and their legendary customer service, tops of the list, in my opinion.

best...mike

I must have had 25 or so trap guns since I started shooting in 1991 but I do like the Krieghoffs. Right now I am doing very well with my model 32 with an O/U barrel, but I also like shooting my K-80 unsingle occassionally. I had a Ks5 and like it very much but traded it in on my first K-80. Mike.

I started out with a ks5 my dad bought me. I would strongly recommend it for anybody that wants a good bang for their buck. I'm well aware that the price of a gun does not determine the scores you will shoot but I was sold the first time I shot my dads and had my first 50 strait, i was sold and bought my own. Both great guns

I hope I still haven't owned my favorite! Of the ones I have had the pleasure to own or shoot, my old Model 12 is tops, then the Browning XT I am shooting now, and a Winchester 101 I bought in the late sixties and shot for years.

Just a note, I have never felt able to invest in a Kolar, Ljutic, Perazzi, etc. Martinpicker

My all-time favorite is a 1972 BT-99. Could pick up any unaltered, factory 1972 BT-99 and shoot 24,25. Problem was I just could not add enough weight to them. I have bought, tried, and sold many trap guns. The one that I have shot the most, and owned since 2001, would be a KS-5.

Lot of nice guns out there, but if you're looking for something versatile go with a good used over-under. The Browning XT is a good example. Bill

My best Hdcp scores were shot w/a Model 12 100 strt from 24 yds 1970 then a Ljutic w/99 at Missouri Fall Hdcp, Highest avg held by Silver Seitz and Caesar Guerini 32" Un-single, I won the Grudge Match w/Silver Seitz w/35"Bbl #3 adj rib. Traded it off in 20 minutes of posting for a Blaser F3 Combo which I have in training now.

But I would suggest a Combo like the Caesar Guerini or Blaser F3 if you can afford one, if not the Browning XT-combo 34" unsingle & 32" O/U bbls.

Well I guess I'll speak up for the 1100/1187.

I had been using an 870, which I liked everything about except the recoil. The 1100/1187 was a natural because it felt pretty much the same, though a bit heavier because of the gas assembly, pointed the same, but had significant recoil reduction. That third box of shells was getting to be a chore with the 870, but I can shoot an 1100 or 1187 all day long.

I will vote for the shotgun you are most comfortable with.

My Browning A5 is my all time Favorite. Saturday I shot the first bird scored in the event, on a three man squad, then sat back to watch thirty other shooters, try to beet a 99. several 98's but the 99 stood up. 24,25,25,25.

I have three SBT's two of them I shoot well. BUT for shear enjoyment give me the A5!

Al

So get as comfortable as you can with what you have.

And stay with it even when you get other shotguns

Of my shotguns, the one I shoot the best with is a standard BT-99, but my Remington 31 and SX1 have this aura of 'classicness' that makes smoking targets a different kind of joy.

I am lusting for a TM-1, or MT-6 or early MX...one day, one day.

A fellow shooter let me shoot his perazzi mx14 or 15 with adjustable rib, single, with all adjustments, this thing weighed a ton to me- like it did feel as if I was holding up 2 bricks in my left hand. But there is something to say about the weight as it was cake breaking targets with it, itll smooth out your swing and soak up factory 1oz loads no problem.I had a real good time with a Valmet 412st I once had,so I have to assume a K gun would treat me the same. You bought a Seitz,so you are way ahead of the game at your age.You shoot that, shoot the PP out of it,and you will learn what you like/dislike about it,and maybe just leave well enough alone. To answer the question,I like both the Beretta and Perazzi, and have both, scores are the same 22-23-24-25. On skeet though, the mx8 32" was able to make a 97 on practice, which suprised me as Im a 5 foot dude and like a shorter lighter gun to start.

Favorites have always been the guns I shoot the best scores with so here are may favorites from my early beginnings to now.

1st gun - L.C. Smith Olympic Grade single barrel trap - It distroys clays and your shoulder - Also I am not nearly as old as the gun when I was 12 the gun was 35 years old.

2nd Gun - BT99 you just can't destroy these guns and they shoot as good as the shooter.

My current gun - now married with a son - with no big budget for a high end trap gun - Winchester Select Energy Trap - Very good gun for it's price. Did take me three years to learn how to shoot it well "every time" but now a 48 out of 50 is a bad day.

i went through an initial period of shooting registered birds for about ten years, and shot just about any gun you might name. but my favorite from that intense time was a perazzi combo. so long ago that i don't remember the letter/number combination.

but now, about 20 years later, i have returned to shooting in a far less intensive fashion, and my choice of guns is the remington 1100 trap with a monte carlo stock, fixed full choke. low cost, very little recoil, and very tight patterns.
