Hey guys,
We have a trap field that the shot is going over into the adjacent property. Wondering if anyone else has had this problem and has been able to solve it with some type of screen that could be hung from poles to keep the shot from going across the property. The property line is about 900 to 1000 ft from the trap house. We have considered planting fast growing trees along the line to fill in the holes but this may take a long time to totally take care of the problem. The other two fields we have are fully wooded along the property.
Any help would be great!

1000 feet should be enough distance to contain the shot. Are you limiting your shooters to ATA legal loads? Maybe time to quit shooting the boomer back fence loads. Target loads shouldn't be going over 700-800 feet. Mark
In most places it's against the law to deposit lead onto someone elses land. Best be putting a catch curtain up or restrict the shooters to light loads.
Yes there are companies that manufacture shot curtains. Don't know the name but I suggest you google 'shot curtains'. Thye ain't cheap and are hung from cables strung between 40' utility poles. Are you sure the property line is 900' to 1000' from the 16 yd line? Layout diagram from Western Traps shows a 900' danger zone on their drawings. A sure fire way to find out for sure if the shot is leaving your property is to stand on the property line during a round of trap. Wear jeans,a hooded sweat shirt and hold an open umbrella above your head and of course FACE AWAY FROM THE TRAP HOUSE!!!! Use your cell phone to let the squad know you are in position and have at it. I did the same thing at our little club once to find out for sure how far the shot travels. Got hit with some pellets but did not feel any pain. Now then the previous poster has a valid point about the boomer loads. If people don't want to comply with restrictions on shot size and powder charges then they can shoot someplace else. Not worth the grief of having to clean up lead on someone elses property!!! Bill
I just googles 'shot curtains' and about maybe five listings down thelist is one from www.hopeglobal.com They have video of them in use at a club in Montpilier Vermont I bleive. Bill

Is it really 900 feet (300 yards) or just a ballpark estimate that may be off by a couple 100 feet?

It is probably more than 1000 ft, just a rough estimate on the distance. We have a company coming in to mine the shot,a lot right in that area close to the fence line.

The NRA said it 300 yards with 7 1/2 to 9 shot with trap loads. As the shot size goes up so does the yardage thats needed.

We just held a clinic at the Oakdale, California club and they use a shot screen. The one currently in place is made up of old canvass conveyor belts, but they have new ones ordered. It works well, but takes a bit of getting used to hearing the shot hit the screen, also a very different background than clear blue sky.
as was said Montpelier Vermont uses shot curtains to contain the shot seems to give a constant background that the shooters do not mind.
Depending on your climate .... certain species of bamboo can grow at 3 ft per day and reach 90 feet in hieght.
There is a good looking shot screen at the Olympics. In a few days, it will probably be torn down and taken to a landfill. Act quickly.
