The ignorance in some of these replies is astounding. It's an application for trap shooters by a fellow trap shooter. You *DON'T* have to use it or like it. Unwind your panties and either offer ideas and advice or just move on. Buncha sourpusses on here!

I thought it was such a big deal to hand the classification crew your average card?

Remember the thread about classification at Ohio when their computer/hardware went down?

What good will this app do when the ATA is constantly 2-3 weeks or more behind in posting averages/yardages to their database. I don't know about the rest of you but when I go to any shoot, I want to be classified on ALL my targets, not just those from a month ago that may, or may not, be in the database. I personally have no problem updating my average card after each shoot or event. I will likely take a look at the app but will still continue to average out all my scores after each hundred.

I personally think this is a great idea and will be the first in line for the app when it comes out. A question about those who stated that they haven't filled out an average card in years. Is this a violation of ATA rules? I'm fairly new to this sport, only shooting registered targets for about a year, so forgive my ignorance if this is a dumb question. Thanks,

They don't need no stinkin' rules....

The reason for the average card is so us lower class shooters get properly classified and shoot at the proper yardage. Remember, if you shoot at the wrong yardage, your targets won't be registered.

Many of the top shooters are AA 27 AA and are usually well known where they shoot. When they show up at classification, these shooters, are just classified in the top classes and maximum yardage. Bill Malcolm

66. In a nut shell yes. Unless they can prove that they are a current member, what their hdcp yardage is and their average in 16yrd and Doubles and there other ways to do just that.

Thanks to everyone who helped answer some of these questions above. There is one thing that I would like to highlight, which hasn't been discussed.

Yes, you can have your paper average card and maintain it for free. If that's what you'd like to do, great. Nobody is forcing you to buy something or use a product. Trapshooting has a big tent and everyone is welcome under it.

But there is a bigger picture here with this app and THIS is my motivation.

This sport is desperate for participation and interest, as well as moving forward with modern technology. It is no mistake, these go hand in hand. Adapt or die. That's the choice.

Every score you enter can be shared with friends, family, and acquaintances via Facebook and Twitter. No big deal, you say?

Consider the "social", marketing, and PR impact this will have on the sport. You send your results to the social networks and tell everyone how great you shot, how much fun trapshooting is, show them the prizes that you won....then somebody following you says, "dang I need to get more involved with trapshooting. That would be great for me and my family to do. Look what a great time my friend had this weekend!"

Suddenly, those recreational shooters(or perhaps its a former competitive shooter who is taking time off) increase their participation and join the ATA, attend a few registered shoots, buy a gun, subscribe to a magazine, buy ammo, purchase glasses and ear plugs, read our websites, etc. Maybe that person has 1 or 2 kids he/she would like to bring along?

Now you're attracting some attention and $$ to our sport. How important is that to our survival?

This is just a first step in the right direction, but I'm committed to taking the risk because it is necessary. I've already got plans for version 2 as well as a few other products to help us.

If the app isn't for you, no problem. I'm not offended. I'll still shake your hand when I see you and ask how you're doing.

I think this is a great idea. No this will not allienate anyone you will not be forced to have a smartphone and it will not replace paper cards. I see alot of people writing checks in the super market but I just use my debit card. The stores would never require you to have a debit card to do business and nor will the ATA require a smartphone. Right now I arrive at shoots with a printout of my scores that I input into this site, I also keep my paper card. Many people are affraid of change and hey thats totally cool. Just think of all the change since this sport began and people complained and now we just roll with it. Just a thought some of your grandfather's grandfathers probably once said "I'll be damned if I drive that horseless carriage to a shoot 200 miles from home." So yes I think this is a great idea (at least for me) and I am surprized it does not already exist. I will be one of the first in line.
