The last primary lead smelter in the US is closing next year, thanks to the EPA. This cannot bode well for lead prices or shooting in general.

Ethonal ging up because the plants are over stock with the stuff and need away to get rid of it. If the manufactures of ethanol not maintain a certain production then they will loose subsisties ( Your tax dollars ). They asked the epa for a mandantory 15%. Problem is cars engines are designed for 10%. But what the hell people don't seem to complain to State Senators or congressman so everyone don't mind throwing their tax dollars away. Wild Bill

Ethanol is a bad/poor product and lead is a "natural" element and is safe.
So which product do you think they(guberment) attack??
The EPA is packed full of "greenies" the only way to solve the problems they create, is to get rid of the agency!!
Like everything else it is probably already cheaper to make lead in mexico or china and ship it back to the US. I mean 20 dollars an hour and healthcare or 1 dollar a day with no breaks plus all the taxes. Probably won't make much difference in lead prices.
Ethanol subsidies are encouraging farmers to plant every inch of land with corn. They used to get incentives to leave critical wildlife habitat unplowed such as steep land prone to erosion a long streams. It is devastating pheasants.

Would you tell us which company and city you are talking about as i did not find an article on that site.
The company is called Doe Run. They are based in St Louis, MO and are privately held.
The plant in question is located in Herculaneum, Missouri but they have several other facilities including those that recycle lead from batteries and other sources.
Their plant in herculaneum has been shut down for a while and is scheduled for a clean up. It is not where they smelt lead today. Also Doerun has developed a method to smelt lead without using the smelting process and it emits no polutants. It is the only process of its kind and the facility is being built. EPA is not a perfect organization but it is an important one. Terry
Noticed a few days ago the Interstate battery store is paying 10.00 for used batteries. It was 7 or 8 awhile ago. That's a pretty good jump.

Early last month Lawrence Mag was $36.50 from our clubs supplier, its $39.57 as of yesterday. Don't know if the shutdown has anything to do with the price or is it just the slow step ladder towards ever higher prices.
Yep for every .25 cent up in price their is probably 10 young people giving up the sport. The quicker the shooting prices go up the quicker the sport can fade away then all the suppliers can turn out the lights and go home. Wild Bill

The EPA is not "PERFECT" ??!! No they are a bunch of socialist coimmies! They (under the direction of Hussien Obama) are sworking feverisly to completely shut down the coal industry! Remember Obama PROMISED to regulate them out of buisness! They work very hard at trying to insure NO refiners will be built in the U.S. and that we will stay dependent on The Muslim nations for oil! They openly talk of "Cruifying" anybody they see as an enemy of their so called "Green" agenda! Any common sense this bunch had was gone LONG AGO! The socialist witch that runs them now is whacko nut job!
I'm not reloading these days, but I will still buy bags of shot. My kids will be delighted to have it when the cost per bag hits $100+ - AND IT WILL, but probably not in the years I have remaining.
