A friend had his Win. Model 12 action freeze in the fully open position. I was able to get the bolt to move about 1/8 " but no more. Any thoughts? Can anything be removed to check the internals in this open action position?

You can start by removing the triger group and see if some thing broke. Its a start. Sometimes the action bar is worn and slips out of the bolt locking the gun up.

If the gun is loose send it to a good smith like Wrigth's.
