Never been in side the rooms here folks but you won't get any closer to the WSRC then this place. That is unless you camp on the WSRC grounds. They have their full-hook up camp sites right behind their Motel. If you can't get a full hook up spot at the WSRC this would be the next closest place. It's not quite the same as the WSRC camp sites but it is a place to park your camper with full hook ups.
I'm in no way affiliated with this fella or his place. I just always forget about this spot. It's actually in Baldwin, IL which is less then 10 minutes from the WSRC. It's also not very far from downtown Sparta as there isn't much in Baldwin as far as Restaurants and stores.
Good pics of the place on their website which he posted above. Even has pictures of the inside of the rooms which look fine to me.

This is nice place to stay and Mike, the owner is a 100% GREAT GUY!!!!! You will not be jerked around and if he says it then you can count on it.
Works now, I messed up somehow.
I stayed there for the '08 Grand. Older motel, but clean, and the owner is very nice. I'd stay there again.
It's just outside the back gate, very easy and quick drive. Not too far to return to the motel after an event to shower/cool off or await the shoot-offs.

It appears the gentleman has a website and with a phone number. I am sure you will get a much more personable and faster response.
If you want a room you have to book it for the whole Grand. I tried to book the first week only, and the guy turned me down flat. So I'm looking at the 8th through Sunday the 12th. If someone wants the room from the 13th on maybe we can make a deal with the guy.
I called his telephone and left a voicemail. He has not had the courtesy to return my call. I will camp elsewhere!

I stayed at the K-River last year. Mike's a good guy and if I were going to the Grand this year, I'd sure stay at his motel again.
Just a nice short drive to the range and I'd maybe meet 3 or 4 cars morning and night.
The whole Grand, take it or leave it. A form of gouging, huh?
I don't think of it as gouging, kaboom. He wants to rent the rooms for the whole Grand and, at least for me, he made me a great deal for the whole thing when I stayed there. He's a great guy, even took me and two others out to dinner one night. Several vendors stayed there along with other shooters and I never had, nor heard, a complaint about the rooms or the owner.
It is so close the the complex (there's even a short-cut on a back road) that I could slip out after singles, shower and cool off, and drive back for handicaps.

I think that asking for rooms to be rented for the entire Frand is more than resonable and is no different that what the Holiday Inn requires with payment in full when you check in as well. Many shooters leave early and then rooms go unrented and a revenue is lost. This is one of the few times in Sparta that demand outpaces availablity. Mike does not raise his rates during Grand week, he justs tries to make sure that rooms don't sit vacant. Mike is a GREAT guy and an honest one as well. He will bend over backwards to help his customers. Thanks Mike for all you do! Your buds from Texas will stop by and say hi next week!
