I have been told by a gunsmith that Cheddite primers are much more corresive than other primers. They can cause major damage to internal and external parts of our guns....

Has anyone heard or experienced this issue?

Of the problems associated with Cheddites, being corrosive isn't one of them.

I have shot sleeves and sleeves of them, and everybody I know shoots them. No problems that I know of.

Your gunsmith is full of BS. They are not corrosive and are a great primer for the money. I have used thousands and have had zero problems. Fred-napawino

I've been shooting cheddite primers for years. Probably been through at least five sleeves of them with no problems. I hear people trashing them all the time but after shooting that many of them I have to say that I've had absolutely zero problems. Every single one of them has gone off and seem to be pretty consistent. Anyone have anything to report on their new American target line of primer? I've heard they are exactly the same, just a different color? I just got a sleeve of them so we'll see.

It seems that the purists of this sport sometimes get carried away with their criticisms of off-brand stuff.. I have NO problem with them. They're the same as the Win 209s that I also use interchangeably..

Probably the most widely used primer world-wide! I call BS on the shade tree tinkerer for starting this rumor!

I have found that Cheddite primers are prone to firing pin piercing. Maybe that gunsmith was referring to the damage caused by that event. HMB

They work in every shell I've ever loaded them in. Never a failure or puncture in many sleeves, And reloading is about cost savings. Cheddites fit the bill.

I have shot them for eight years and use at least 10000 a year. I use them for all four gauges and have never pierced one(I use them in 682s, 1100s, BT99 and a 101). I have never seen any type of issue with them. Finally, the other day I had my first dud primer. Haven't looked back yet, still loading the hell out of them!!

Rob, if you Peirce a primer with a firing pin, you don't get corrosion. What you get is erosion from the hot gases escaping from the shell.

The new American Target primers are very good.....almost better than the regular Cheddites. They are all silver color and kind of look like a Fiocchi primer but are made by Cheddite and are VERY inexpensive.

$18.00 to $22.00 per 1000 depending on how you buy them.

The box has an American flag design and the primers are all silver with a blue colored sealer on the blow hole. I think they look kind of sharp as far as primers go and I noticed they slide on the primer tray better.

I shoot a K-80 and have shot over 35,000 shells with Cheddite primers and have never had a firing pin pierce a primer. I've never had a Cheddite primer fail to fire either. They're as good a primer as any.

Shoot safely, well and often, Tom

Noblesport primers cost less than the Cheddites but they are approximately the same size. Both the Ched's and the Noble's are larger than the Win 209's and Rem's. If you reload with either, do not go back to Win 209's or they may fall out of the primer pofcket. My experience is with approx 75,000 Noblesports.

rdf59, what you say concerning Nobel Sport primers is correct but not true about the Cheddite Primers. Cheddites are the same size as Rem, Feds and Winchester primers. AND, none of them are corrosive!

I've loaded win primers after cheddites, never had any problems. Noble sport on the other hand were the worst primers I've ever seen. The ones I tried were crap.
