Can a stock finished in tru oil be darkened a shade or two without removing the old finish. could you possibly add something like Watco oil to Tru oil to get the finish you want?
You could certainly stain the wood before applying Tru Oil.
All oil finishes will darken with age. Watco oil if I recall will not dry like Tru-Oil does. I used it more for a soak in type of treatment on cedar and wood of that sort.
