Wirehaired Pointing Griffons, 4 1/2 weeks old, 3 males and 3 females, they are located in Montana, get the best breed and get all the phesants. Your wife will say this is the best house dog we have ever had,how come you only bought one.
lol
I would like to hear that recording "why did you buy only one"
Please play it
Regards from Iowa
Gene
PS I have hunted over a couple of these that were good dogs and one did very well retrieving ducks also as well as upland- the ones I hunted over belonged to a guy that gets his from the sanctioned US breed club of America
lets see the sire and dam pictures please
I am not a dog trainer. All I did was introduce them to birds, and they did the pointing and retrieving naturally. The pic. of the 3 pheasants are 3 birds that my female pointed out that my buddies well seasoned dogs ran right by. My male was not there that day but he can point and retrieve just as well as my female. They do a great job also retrieving geese.
I had to put my 5 year old Drahthaar down a few months ago. Liver cancer. If I lived closer, it would be tempting.
Where in Montana are you located?
thanks dg
Great pair. I can tell by the look in their eys is to please and hunt hard. Wild Bill
How much are you asking for them? Thanks, Bob W.
ttt
I have run English Pointers, setters, and Springers for a lifetime. However, after six years with a Wirehair, I will have no other dog.
I have a two year old male, natural hunter, great nose, strong swimmer. Of all the hunting dogs I have owned, this one is the best!
Wirehaired Pointing Griffons and German Wirehairs (Drahthaars) are two very different breeds. The Griffons are appreciably smaller and most are much shorter ranging. I have hunted with both and even showed a friend;s Griffon at Westminster (he won the breed). The Griffons I hunted with also had an unusual bounding gate. They are sweet dogs and easy to have around.
Beautiful dogs!
I am unfamiliar with the breed. How bad do they shed? Are they good with kids and other dogs (we only have a toy poodle since my GSP died).
And my wife would want to know... do they drool?
How much are you asking?
From my research, they are the largest breed that do not shed. Larry
They're typically closer, slower and more thorough than Wires or Shorthairs. They do find birds the faster dogs miss and find downed birds the others don't.
beautiful dogs...they wont have any trouble finding good families
OK the suspense is killing me ,what's the selling price???
I'm asking $700.00, for either male, or female with AKC papers, if you want breeding rights I want $1200.00, per puppy. Thanks
Birddogs is right. The Wire Haired Griffon is actually one the four breeds in the bloodline of the Drahthaar. One of our female Drahts looked just like one.
Just a thought: I have trouble paying a price for a dog then paying more if I want to breed it.
Just me. If i buy it, I buy it.
Who from/where did you purchase parents?
I don,t know if this is your first litter but I have bought dogs and the breeder had to OK a mate if I wanted to breed dog that is to insure health and good dogs being breed good line The dogs I have bought had to give deposit before they were born most if not all were sold this way , the more money for breeding rights I have never herd of you might end up keeping a lot of dogs. good luck.
Here is a picture of my 2 year old male, Rowdy, a Northern California WPG.
Copper, A certified dog is far different than a breed dog. A breed dog can mate with any dog with in the breed.
A certified dog has to pass hunt tests to be approved for breeding. The Drahthaar is one of those. A draht is not a wire hair, but an uncertified drahthaar may been one of the first wire hairs.
Coach, that's a stunning dog. Larry
Coach, Thanks, for your picture of Rowdy, Griffons are great dogs.
I'll sell you a shotgun for $1,500 but if you plan to use it in competition against me I want $3,000.....
copper, in this day we live there seems to be little honor or respect left for anything. Given that, with certain breeds of dogs, horses, etc, breeders hope that potentail owners still will have that instilled in them and respect the origin and desire for the development of future specimens. If your familiar with hunting dogs, then you understand what has happened to majority of the popular hunting breeds in existence (ie the brit, shorthairs, labs, etc) and how the term "puppy mill" applied.
The happy go lucky, six time a year hunter can never understand the heritage and development standards set forth by the originators of breeds. Possibly the last stronghold of heritage left are the draahts and griffons.
Good luck with your puppy sale. All I can say is these dogs are one of the best all around hunting and family dogs that I have ever owned. Double coat, webbed feet, great noses, strong swimmers, close hunters, great retrievers, natural hunters and great dispositions. Mine is very friendly and really likes other dogs and people. Jon
Setterman, go for it!! These are great dogs.....
Matt
They look a lot like a Spinone. We got a Spinone 2 weeks ago and a nicer pup you couldn't ask for. He is only 12 weeks old so I can not attest to his hunting skills but I can see he will be a great companion. I believe Spinone are a cross between Italian Griffons and German Wire hairs and the breed is 500 years old from what I have read.
Here he is.
If he grows into those feet you may haze problem!! Larry
Here are a couple of pictures of one of our Spinoni, (Brown Roan) Showing our youngest son's Griffon what she is suppose to do in the field.... I think she was about 18 months when pictures were taken, there are several more of her pacing behind Gracie during the point. She never encroached on the point but was unsure of what to really do... in all fairness it was only her second time on birds. Gracie the Spinone held this pheasant for all of 5 minutes before we moved in for the flush. Our son has since improved her hunting skills but the pictures I have are always ready to be pulled out for a REMEMBER WHEN !!
Once met a guy who bought one to hunt with but his wife turned it into a spoiled house dog.Poor guy couldn't even hunt with it because his wife was scared that something might happen to the dog like get hurt while hunting.
Absolutely GREAT dogs. They are perfect family animals and they love to hunt.
Actually, there is a great deal of difference between the Spinone, Wirehaired Pointing Griffon Club of America and American Wirehaired Pointing Griffon Association dogs. While the two Griff clubs started with the same dogs, WPGCA introducted a cross breed (the Cesky Fousek) into its line while AWPGA has continued with a "pure" breed. The Spinone has some of the same background as the Griff, but there's a great deal of difference between a Spinone and either of the Griff club dogs.
I was national rescue coordinator for four year for AWPGA and placed some absolutely wonderful dogs. One of them is sleeping beside me right now.
If you're looking for more information, go to AWPGA.com and see what's there.
