Just saw on CBSPhilly.com/Connect about a guy who has a account at Wells Fargo and checked his account. In his account he saw he had $69,300.00. Well hey I got money to spend. He payed his 2 brothers bill, his grandmothers bills and his mothers bill. He bought a $600.00 lab and a used car. He took a trip to Fl and bought somethings for his apartment and food. All in all he spent about $67,000.00 of the $69,300.00.
Now the kicker. The bank found they made a mistake and put the money in the wrong account and now wants it back. They called the cops and he was arrested. Receiving stolen goods and something else. Both were felon.
If you put money in the bank and they put your money in the wrong account and you say didn't have any paper work even if they found it you wouldn't get it back would you? If the bank does a mistake you better believe they will get their money back.
What do you all think of this? I say tough sh!t to the bank.
I've never put money in the bank and not had any paperwork. That's why they give you paperwork, so you can be sure it went where it's supposed to go.
Being arrested to taking/spending money that is not yours sounds about right.
Given your terrible history with banks, you might just want to consider keeping everything in cash.
Scott
Spoken like a true Yankee Carpetbagger Banker.
There is plenty of case law history that says the bank is entitled to get their money back in case they make an error.
Again, it is a simple case of taking something that does not belong to you.
Common sense says if it is not yours, you are not entitled to it.
Even if you find a suitcase full of money on the sidewalk, it is not yours. By law, you should turn it in.
Yes, I would have my deposit receipts.
Scott
What type carpet bag do you have???
I got mine at Dillards. ; >)
The bank made an honest mistake, and the greedy customer thought he/she would get away with it. It is NOT a case of finders Keepers, and the customer was stupid to think it was. Let the person pay the price. What ever happened to plain old honesty?
Sam Ogle, Lincoln, NE
He's a "Felon"...and that's with a capital "F"....
If he had any balls and was honest, it could have been cleared with a phone call.
Piece of crap needed to be locked up!!
Curt

Wife had $800.00 show up in her account that was not hers. She calls the bank and they say they will correct it.
Next statement it is still there. She calls again. They say they will take care of it.
Then her checks started bouncing as insufficient funds.
They now had taken it out twice.
Another call and they say they will take care of it and send letters to ones who had returned the checks.
Finally all was righted. What a hassle.
He thought he had won the lotto,,,,,,bet he was a democrat,,,,,,used to getting money that he didn't work for.....
What a dumb aZZ. How did he think that money was his? Dumbocrat for sure.
He knew he didn't have that much money and he shouldn't have spent it! He was wrong; that said the bank deserves some blame for the mistake, and arrest ws not the right way to resolve the issue. Some repayment plan would make sense
Bruce, you are assuming that the bank didn't try to resolve things prior to contacting law enforcement. I'll bet your assumption is incorrect and that the bank filed charges as a last resort. The last thing they would want is to have their mistake publisized. Sounds like the crook in question threw the money away as fast as possible and can't repay the bank. Jail is where he belongs, IMO.
I'm relieved. I read the title of this thread and thought it was going to be about WF being anti gun or something like that.
A few years back we had our savings acct hit for $4000 one night. My wife checks our accounts daily and found it right away. We had our money back in less than 24hrs. WF has a great fraud department in my book. Maybe all banks do, but my only experience is with them.
As far as I'm concerned, this guy got what he deserved.
Years ago, on payday, one person would take quite a few checks to the bank to cash for fellow employees.
Bank employees would put the cash into separate envelopes, and write their names on them.
This went on for several years with no problems, until one person was shorted $100.00.
It took a few days to settle this, because the bank kept saying they didn't make mistakes.
A few months later, I was given $100.00 too much in my envelope when I compared it to my stub. I called the bank, and said I was coming to the bank after work to settle a mistake. I didn't say what the mistake was.
A nasty bank employee said they had just gone through this with us, and their bank did not make mistakes, and since the envelopes had left the bank, they could not do anything about it.
I said "fine" and went about my business for the weekend.
Well, on Monday, they called work, and asked to speak to the person who called on Friday about the mistake, so I called them back.
This time, they were very nice, and when I went to the bank to return the money, I asked where the lady was who never made mistakes, and they said she had "Moved on"!
We stopped this practice soon after this.
PS. They did give me a coffee mug!
I would like to think if you show honesty to other people like kindness, it will rub off on other people.
( i know i am delusional, but...)
On more than one occassion, I have returned change given to me in excess of my purchase and just this Monday, I bought some cans of spray paint and noticed the clerk only rang up two instead of three. When i pointed it out to the young kid, he was stunned and thanked me profusely. Guess he could not believe people do such things.
By the way, I was not the one that put the graffiti on the Democrat local headquarters.
True story. About five years ago I checked my investment accounts with a well known investment firm and discovered that I suddenly had $17,000,000 in my account. When I stopped laughing I called my broker and told him I was Immediately closing all of my accounts and would be in shortly to pick up the checks. Phil was stunned as we had worked very well together over the years. I asked him what the total payout would be. Things got very quiet after he pulled up this particular account. I told him I would split it with him at which point we both began laughing. Within two hours I was back to being a pauper. I am amazed that the OP thought that the money actually belonged to the criminal who spent it knowing full well that it wasn't his. Then he has the balls to call somebody a Yankee Carpetbagger Banker. The world is full of truly ignorant people.
Pat
I think OP was joshin' us, or was directing a harpoon at Scott who is an acquaintance?
I'd bet this was a welfare, food stamp, section 8 housing SOB.
It certainly was not honest or respectable, typical socialistic BS thought process.
Maybe we just see more of this now due to the, fart in china smell it in Florida in 2 seconds information streamline we have now.
In the USAF, I was over paid twice. I pointed it out and the government was kind enough not to pay me again until the difference was absorbed. The guy who kept the 67K is a crook and an opportunist. He's a theif and deserves the label.
And then there's US Bank that charges 5000% (no typo) fees for an $11 overdraft.
I am retired from the banking industry. Over the years, I had a few customers walk in and tell me that there was money deposited to their checking or savings accounts that was not theirs, usually amounts anywhere from $1,000.00 to $30,000.00.
Most errors usually occur when a customer or a business do not have the correct account#, or do not have a valid account# on their deposit slip when making deposits and drop them off before or after hours usually in the night depository.
I have a friend who had $1,000 deposited to his saving account at another bank, and he said he was going to spend it. I told him to call his bank and let them know that the money was not his.
He did that, and the woman insisted that the money was indeed his. He knew it wasn't, so he spent it. About a week later, he received a letter informing him that an error occurred, and they would be taking $1,000.00 out of his account.
The guy that was in the news recently spending the $60,000.00 has to be a knot head. I believe there is more to this story than we were told. Steve Balistreri
Well if Scott is a carpet bagger what does that make the idiot from Virginia. One who supports a theft and the thief is of the same cloth as the thief. We would therefore know what the great Auctioneer would do if it ever happened to him. Looks like he stubbed his toe on this great post.
Don
He was transplanted in Va, he's not homegrown.
Wells Fargo may or may not be OK by today's standards, but they will never get a nanosecond of consideration for my business.
I bought a vehicle from a lady in trouble, (couldn't make all her payments when her husband died very suddenly) and went to them with a cashiers check to clear the title.
This was a cashier's check from M & I right down the street, 2 blocks away. the ink was still wet from me drawing it out. Easy enough to verify, anyway.
They would not stamp the title "Paid". Said they would send the title to the original owner when their paperwork cleared. How stupid is that? I never had such a thing ever before anywhere.
So I had to drive the thing on HER insurance and registration for almost 3 weeks, then she had to find me to bring the cleared title.
NO Wells Fargo for me, thanks.
HM
Hey DonnyBoy, tell me something. Years ago a armor truck carrying a truck load of cash in Ca flipped over on a over pass and spilled alot of their load near the poor section of the city. The people in the area came in and grabbed as much as they could. All it was was an opportunity for them.
The bank then by radio or by the TV told the people that if they didn't return the money the police would start kicking in doors. How arrogant is that?
The banks think they can do as they please and are above the laws. If you make a mistake you pay for it. If they make a mistake you pay for it. Who do you think started the resection? The banks started the down fall and they have not had to pay for it.
D.H in MI, Va is alot better then where you are.
Auctioneer -
I can tell you that it's an undisputed fact that the banks did not start the resection.
Most resections are started by a doctor, so unless you can be more specific about which resection you are talking about it won't be possible to tell you who started it.
Scott
Go talk to a CPA.
Are they doing resections now??
By the way Einstein I lived in VA, every hear of a town called Quantico??
Don
Not what I have found out. You maybe in Va for a spell but you live some place else.
Besides you have bragged about being on your home state team. That team wasn't VA's. You have to live in that state to be on any state team.
up for more laughs
Oh intelligent one. Let me give you a little education. Word difference:
LIVED va LIVE one is present and the other is past
RESECTION vs RECESSION get a dictionary.
BRAGGED to boast of ones deeds. But it has to have happened, actually bragging in order to call one a braggard. I have never bragged or even mentioned being on my State(MI) team but I will give you an exclusive - I made it again this year.
A little hint think before you post and use the right words. You are proving to the world your total lack of knowledge about to many things. But I don't expect you to change so people will just keep laughing at you. You should stay in your area of expertise - firewood and old barns.
Have a good day.
Don
Whats wrong DonnyBoy? Did I hit a nerve???? Did I catch you in a LIE??? You don't live in Va but MI. RIGHT?
Sorry that I don't spell as well as everyone else with SPELL CORRECT. Push a button to improver their lack of spelling.
I would like to see you use a chainsaw and or just last long enough for a truck load of wood. I say you would fall flat on your face before a half a load. I would add that you would chop off a finger with the log splitter when splitting the wood.
What have you ever tried to build or rebuild? I would love to see something you tried to do. That would give everyone a good laugh. I bet that if you built a dog house the dog wouldn't even use it because he would be to embarrassed to do so. Other dogs would laugh at him for having such a poor dog house. I also know why you won't build a dog house. If you went out and got a dog it would just run away once he started to know you.
When you try to climb a ladder please have a camera set up to video the event for all of us to see. That would be the funnist thing ever to see you try to go up a ladder.
I also say that you voted for Obama. How do I know you did? You have the same attitude as Obama. Arogant
Johnny is in the third grade- what a surprise!
TTT
Auction you continue to prove the point that you are the village idiot. What was the lie o wise one. I said I lived in VA = that is past tense= like years ago= like in the 60s.
Are you really that proud of this thread to push it to the top. You just sound like a frustrated old man. By the way you might be surprised what this old farm boy can do with a chain saw, yeah I own a Stihl and a Poulan.
Arrogant is writing a stupid thread and then defending it with further stupidity.
Do your self a favor read a book this week.
Don
Owning a chainsaw and knowing how to use it are two diff things. If you just owned a Stihl I would give you credit but you also said you own a POULAN. You have one good saw and one junk saw. If I owned a Poulan which I don't I wouldn't let anyone know it. Only a fool would own a Poulan.
I'm sure you know how to change the word from Live to Lived.
As I have asked a number of times, what thread have you ever started?
You have books, I have a I-Pad. Ge tup with the times.
So how's the weather in MI D.H?
I agree with Johnny, up for more laughs, I've got a sweet tooth for this stuff.
John
P.S. the $60K shopping spree dude, must have thought his Obama bucks came in. On the brighter side, he probably won't be voting for Obama this time. I would think most, if not all states exclude a felon, serving jail time, from voting. I know Indiana does.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and suggest that Auctioneer come to the Ohio State shoot for a 3 way match up between Don, Gary and himself. Could be interesting. Opinions???? John
You know what the funny part would be? I could shake his hand and he wouldn't know who I was. I would know who he is but he wouldn't know who I was. LOL.
