June 30th-July 1st will be the 2nd Annual Del-Tone/Luth Independence Classic in St. Cloud, MN. We learned a lot from last year's shoot and we think we have a much more exciting and fun shoot this year!!

This year we have $4,500 added cash, a DPMS .223 Rifle, a pair of Scheel's Sporting Goods Paragon binoculars ($449 retail value) and $900.00 in Scheel’s Sporting Goods gift cards!!!!!

The shoot program will consist of a 100 target singles event and two 100 target handicap events on Saturday June 30th and two 100 target handicap events on Sunday, July 1st!!!

Prizes will be awarded to class winners, AA, A, B, C and D with veteran, junior and lady categories in the singles event. In the handicap events there will be 3 yardage groups: 18 to 22 ½ yards, 23 to 26 ½ yards and 27 yards. The High Gun in each Handicap Event will win a $75.00 Scheel’s Sporting Goods Gift Card and the Winner of each Yardage Group of each Handicap Event will win a $50.00 Scheel’s Sporting Goods Gift Card. All ties will be shot off!! No flipping the coin at Del-Tone/Luth!!

ADDED MONEY AND MERCHANDISE!!! The High Gun of the 200 total Handicap Targets on Saturday will win a pair of Scheel's Sporting Goods Paragon binoculars ($449 retail value) and the High Gun of the 200 Handicap Targets on Sunday will win a DPMS .223 rifle!!!! Yep, ties will be shot off for these awards also!!!

The top 5 combined scores for the total 400 handicap targets in each yardage group will shoot off for the $1,500.00 added money for that group. If we have 10 individuals who have shot one of the top 5 combined scores, then we’ll have a 10 man/woman shoot off. Remember, this is the combined scores of each shooter on the 400 total targets. In order to be eligible for the added money, you must have shot all 4 handicap events!!! Money will be divided:

1st - $500, 2nd - $400, 3rd - $300, 4th - $200, 5th - $100

A Free dinner for all shooters and their families and a "Special Event" will be held Saturday after the shooting has finished!!

The club is about an hour northwest of Minneapolis and camp sites with water and electric are available.

Come on out, have some fun and take advantage of your 2 yard reduction to win some cash or some great prizes! PM me if you have any questions about the area, accommodations or anything else. You can also call/email Jeff Hoppes the club manager, (320)251-9873/jeff@del-tone-luth.com, with questions or to reserve a campsite. Camping is $10/per night.

Both myself and Jeff would like to send a “BIG THANK YOU” out to all the individuals who have made this shoot possible. John Houle, Pat Laib, Randy and Pam Luth, Scheel’s Sporting Goods, DPMS, Rengel Printing and numerous anonymous donators. We'll get the official program and some photos on here soon, but mark your calendars now!

John Houle

Here are some pics of the club and the "new" background. A lead reclamation project has left "Lake Hoppes" visible in the distance.

The Viking Shoot is there this weekend. It would be a great chance to come out and get a little warm up in for the Independence Classic!

Like Eric said, Ertz. And for the added cash you'll stay in the yardage group you started out in so if you start in the 18-22 1/2 group and make it to the 24 your scores on the total 400 will be looked at against other 18-22 1/2 shooters and that's the added cash you'd shoot off for.

We had a little more of a breeze today but still all in all beautiful day with a good turnout and good scores.

Jim Hessler won the DPMS rifle after breaking 95+96 for a 191.

He also won the 27 yard shootoff on the total 400 handicap targets to take home $500

After the shootoff for the 27 yarders, Jim Hessler ended up first, Ron Noren second, Gerald Demulling third, Eric Munson fourth and Scott Berning fifth for $500, $400, $300, $200 and $100 respectively.

The mid yardage group shootout was dominated by David Michaelis who broke a 25 in the first round to take $500, Tim Mackey was second, Bill Smith third, and John Houle (Handlepuller) fourth for $500, $400, $300 and $200. Claude Banyai ended up in fifth with a cool $100. Tim's money seems to have multiplied.

Bob Smith took the short yardage shootoff in the first round for $500, Jerry Gall ended up fourth with $200.

Wisconsinite Tom Lewic claimed second in the short yardage shootoff after 5 rounds and David Maples from Minnetonka, MN ended up third for $400 and $300 respectively. 87 year old Loren Hentges ended up in fifth with $100.

On behalf of Jeff Hoppes, Randy and Pam Luth and Del-Tone/Luth Gun Club as well as the other donors, I'd like to thank everyone who attended and encourage those who didn't to make it next year. 15 Shooters took home added cash and the Lewis and options paid well all weekend.

Here are some more pics of the shoot. It's been so nice to see the trap side of the club get busier and busier over the last few years and it's so nice to have a trapshooter, Jeff, in charge out there.

Scott Berning getting ready for the shootoff.

All-American Mariah Michaelis

Jim Hessler, Troy Haverly and Eric Munson in shootoff for the added cash.

Eric Munson, Scott Berning, Gerald Demulling and Troy Haverly slugging it out.

Mid-yardage shooters John Houle, Bill Smith, David Michaelis and Tim Mackey take the line for the $1,500 added shootoff.

Pencil this shoot in for the same weekend next year! We'll plan to make it at least as big or bigger. See you all at the State Shoot!
